Last week, one eye teared a bit. Didn't get goopy. I wiped it, and thought I saw some type of particle.
The past few days, he has been sneezing and coughing. No goop noted. He sounds a bit raspy when breathing, but seems to be coming from his head, not his chest.

For the 1st time in years, he didn't come in, climb up on my chest, and tell me goodnight. He ate this morning, and although he isn't sleeping on his usual spot on the bed, he is NOT hiding. Sleeping in a basket he likes.

He is FIV+ and insulin dependent for 8(?) years. Should I just watch him? Are there home treatments? The eye drip started almost a week ago, and seems to be fine now.

Maybe I'm worrying too much about Max. I have been worried about him since DD found her kitty had passed without warning or any signs of illness. I know that Max is a Gift. He has been through so much, and I know I can't keep him forever, but want him to be here for years to come.

ETA: I read that I should just let it run its course. Don't know where he got it though, but thinking it may be allergies?

My civie has been sneezing too, over the past couple days. I was thinking a cold or allergy. What I read was, in general, they will usually stop sneezing in 14 days with meds and within 2 weeks without meds. So far, I am going with the no meds idea. It is so hard not to worry about all the little signs, though, when they have other issues.

How much Lysine? Thinking we used that for Stomatitis. Don't remember where it was purchased though. Walmart or the drug store should have it...right?

I was thinking possibly allergies because I turned the hot water heat on last week. Maybe it stirred up enough dust? Washing everything they sleep on. Wash my bedding and their throws every week.

Did I read it right that he doesn't have a UR cold because no one goes out, but the dog? I have checking on a dog and cat whose elderly owner has limited resources. But I take all of my clothes off when I get home.

Thank you for the encouragement and support.

Hugs and Healing,

You sound like a good mommy. For me it's normal to have my kitty go thru "off" patches - never quite sure what they are about - just give him lots of loves and comforting pats. My kitty changes his favourite sleeping spots every couple of months. Also has had wet eyes for no apparent reason. How's the flea control? Even though the fleas unlikely due to not going out there can be other critters that make their way in to kitties fur. Mites?

I just want to say how fantastic you've done to keep Max going for 8 yrs. That puts DH n me as mere pups in this process.

You can give him a zyrtec (a whole one if he's very big like our kitty or a half if he is small). I have to give them to our boy coz of food allergies and some times a string of sneezes that seem to come from nowhere.

Although he is an indoor cat, it is always possible to bring something into the house on your clothing or person.

Any time you interact with other animals, upon returning home you migh consider a strip down at the door, followed by a bath. The clothing should be hustled off to the laudry and shoes wiped down with disinfectant, especially if you were working or volunteering at a shelter. Also, it is possible for infectious matter to transfer from another person's clothing to yours, with no obvious sign of it.

Sweet Max says you all are GREAT!!! Thank you!!

He is an amazingly resilent cat. However, the credit goes to the people on this board. I'm sure he wouldn't have made it through the first year, if it wasn't for the love, knowledge, and dedication of our FDMB family. And through the years, they supported us through DKA (more than once), the frequent visits of the Ketone Monster, Stomatitis, removal of all of his teeth by a butcher (IMHO), what seemed like never ending syringe feedings, meds he didn't like, and etc. etc.

So many of the angels on this board now have angel kitties waiting at Rainbow Bridge. Yet they have stayed to give the gift of more time with my sweet boy.

Well, having recently lost my FIV+ kitty after similar symptoms that didn't clear up with his regular llysine use, I'm going to lean to the more cautious side of having Sweet Max checked. Even if it's determined to be allergies (which is entirely likely), FIV+ kitties have a way of going from fine to very in a short period of time. If you decide not to take him in, please at least keep a good record/timeline of the symptoms. I hope Sweet Max feels better soon.
