Suzy 6/15 numbers all over

I know everyone keeps telling me I have to be patient in getting my cats numbers to be more consistent. She's been on insulin about 6 weeks. People are saying do a curve at least once a week but please help me understand what does a curve tell me when her numbers are all over the place and how do I know what the right amount of insulin is when numbers ranged between 50 and 550. I can't test during the day consistently.

If you want to find out what’s going on you need to test a minimum of 4 times every 24 hours and if possible at least 6. A +2-3 will give you an idea as to whether it will be an active cycle. Many cats drop lower at night and if that is happening you will see a high amps. If your cat went low during the day the same thing will happen. Lantus is dosed based on how low a dose takes the cat. If you don’t know that information it’s impossible to give dosing advice.

If you are seeing numbers below 68 on the iPet number, her dose is too high. Though that 57 on the 12th seems really odd compared to the 531 two hours later. When you get an unexpected number like that, I'd test again to make sure it wasn't a wonky test. Assuming it was correct, and you did see an 87 another time, I would reduce her dose to 1.75 units.

The idea of a curve is to try and figure out how low the dose is taking her. We determine how to change the dose based on how low it takes the cat. 57 on the pet meter is too low so you need to lower the dose. The low points in the cycle are typically somewhere in between the preshot tests. The preshot tests tell you if it's safe to give insulin, the curves or mid cycle spot checks help to identify how low the dose is taking the cat, and hence how to change her dose.

I have zero advice but I 100% understand how frustrating this all is. We are about 7 weeks in and my boy is all over the place too. Here's to hoping our baby's bodies will figure it out soon!

Hi, like I said I can't test during the day consistently so looking for some advice besides test more. I get up test and give her insulin, feed, and leave. Thanks anyway. I fixed my description. My IPET Pro was delayed in shipping so I used Relion so those numbers on the spreadsheet are on a human meter not a pet one.
