Hello there!
I'm hopping on and just saw Sienne's response to my Friday's post about Sushi's diarrhea-a-thon:
Sushi's diarrhea is to the point now where I'm worried. I think it's safe to say I've spent 1/8 of my weekend cleaning up (and walking thru; ugh!) patches of diarrhea. I feed his sister the same food, and she is fine, so I'm thinking I can rule food out as the culprit; is that safe to say? I was assuming it was due to the high carb food I left out for him Monday, but would it still be causing trouble at this point?
I gave him some plain (nonfat) yogurt late last night around 11 or 12. I also added Metamucil to his food twice yesterday and this morning. I haven't seen any improvement yet.
Sushi's not crazy about the Metamucil, so he's not eating as well. This has caused him to drop to 50! Talk about a domino effect!
I'm scared giving him more high carb food will upset his stomach even more.
I thought his high numbers were due to the insulin pooping out (either way, it is time to get new insulin), but maybe not? Any thoughts there?
Could old insulin be the cause of Sushi's upset stomach?
Ahhh!!! nailbite_smile

Thank you SO much Sienne! As usual, what great, valuable information. I do have access to a Whole Foods, so I'll be running over there as soon as Sushi's numbers even out.Sienne and Gabby said:I would order FortiFlora. The only place I've ever gotten it is at the vet's office (where they overcharge) or on-line -- Amazon, Entirely Pets, etc. Any probiotic will help with diarrhea. If you're near a Whole Foods, you can see if they have ReNew Ultimate in the refrigerated supplements section. (You use about 1/3 of a capsule twice a day.) Some people have used plain, unsweetened yogurt with live cultures to help with diarrhea, as well.
I'd also see about giving a different food just in case you have a bad batch of food. Check to see if you've been feeding from the same lot of food. If so, switch to a different lot and see if the problem clears up.
With Sushi's dose, I suspect the pens will be more economical.
