Hello all!
Do any of you have experience with supplements helping a diabetic/poor kidneys/reoccurring Uti cat?

I am especially interested in D-mannose. I've seen good things and that it should not affect BG.

I'm also considering Kidney Restore from Amazon.

Any other things that anyone could recommend?

Thanks!

D-Mannose is a very good supplement for UTIs. I have used them for my cat with minor cystitis and it eased the symptoms quickly. It's non-digestible sugar that acts on the bacteria in the bladder to remove it.

Regarding supplements for kidney disease, I would not try any of them as there is no scientific basis for them to work. What does work are subQ fluids (it's a form of kitty dialysis), low carb, high protein diet, and phosphorus binders in food if blood work shows that it's high (over 5-6 mg/dL). This is a good website for information: https://www.felinecrf.org/

There is no better treatment for diabetes than low carb food and insulin. Anything that promises better glycemic control in a pill is a waste of money. I saw from another post that you were using a supplement with beta glucans, and that's a good ingredient, but cannot replace low carb food or insulin.

I saw from a previous post that your cat is on Novolin and you're thinking of switching to Prozinc, which I think is a very good idea. Once you're set up on Prozinc, please learn to start hometesting, start a spreadsheet, enter any labs you have so that we can look at the kidney values, and post regularly to get dosing help if you want it. :) NEW?
