Still too high, but I'm hoping she'll start coming down soon. She did eat some Meow Mix wet last night before I went to bed and she ate some more Meow Mix this morning - I checked them on the sweetkitties food app, and they really aren't that bad - better than the Sheba cuts, actually. I think 2 were around 8-9% and 1 was about 4%.

She was very lovey and talky this morning, and she led me into her and Jibbit's old foster room 3 times. No idea what she wanted me to do in there, unless maybe she was looking for Jibbit. I left her purring happily on the cat tree in her old foster room.

Though her numbers haven't been great, she isn't drinking or peeing nearly as much as she used to, so I'm hoping that's a good sign.

Re: Sunshine AMPS 344

It'll probably take her a little bit to reacclimate to being home again. Both Autumn and Cassanova's numbers went nuts for about 2 weeks after we moved the gang.

I could definitely tell the difference in who were owner surrenders and those that had be adopted as feral/stray kittens. The owner surrenders had a much harder time with the move. Their stress levels were much higher, so with all Sunny has been through lately she's probably very unsure of her life right now, but once she realizes she home for good she'll relax again.

The old foster room is home base and her safe zone. If you watch a new kitten explore they start by only venturing just a few feet from the den then slowly expand their range, but the second something spooks them they run right back to that den. Adult cats do the same thing they start at home base and expand their range from there.

Thanks, Mel!

Actually, once Sunny finally felt safe enough to come downstairs after I released her and Jibbit from the foster room, she never went back upstairs again...until this morning. Which is why it was weird!

I'll just keep trying my best to make sure she eats. I'm also a bit unsure about the insulin. I'm giving it the way Jenna showed me, but like she said, it feels like you aren't giving any insulin at all. Very weird.

Re: Sunshine AMPS 344

You'll get use to the feel. Both Autumn and Cassanova are microdose kitties and it does feel like nothing. But you'd be amazed at what a couple drops will do. Insulin is an extremely potent hormone. Especially for something that looks like water.

I'm not sure what she ate today, since her food looked untouched when I got home. She seemed like she was interested in her shredded chicken dinner, but when I went back to check on her, it looked like all she had done was spread it around on the plate a bit more. I just gave her some crumbled-up pieces of Stella & Chewy's Duck Duck Goose, and it looks like she ate all of that. I'll take it!

I think part of the problem is that she just doesn't go back to her plate to finish eating later, which is unlike any other cat I've ever had. She wants just a bit at a time, and she wants it fresh each time. She needs to change that, because I can't accommodate it! She wasn't like this in her foster room, so I don't know what the deal is.

That's a problem I can't help you solve because the word leftovers is not in the Fur Gang's vocabulary. I do however have 3 that will only eat in a separate room. Perhaps that was what she was trying to tell you by leading you back to her old room.

So she definitely preferred a lot of tiny fresh meals but that schedule wasn't sustainable for me. I already have dogs that eat 4 times a day and one of them gets meds 6 times a day so as much as I loved Sunny, I wasn't able to feed her fresh food every 4 hours. I wonder if she'd be better in her own room with an auto-feeder during the day and then out in the house at night for cuddles with you?

That's something to consider, Jenna, though I will say that she's been much happier since I let them out of the room...so it might be distressing to her to put her back in there. I dunno.

Mikey does this a lot, too. When that happens, I do what I call a "remix" and turn over the food in the bowl so the top layer is submerged again. That works about half the time. The other half the time, I sprinkle on some Parmesan or freeze-dried chicken dust and it gets him eating. Rarely, I have to toss it all and give him completely fresh food. If I'm not around to cater to him, then he just has to "starve" till I get home.

Unfortunately, remixing doesn't work for Sunny, nor does parm. She's just turned into a picky little girl!

Mel, I should have said that the foster room was where I tried to feed her last night, since that was where she was at dinnertime. (I take the food to wherever the cats are.) That was where she just sort of rearranged the food on her plate instead of actually eating.
