Sunny is an 8 year old male that was recently diagnosed with diabetes, he had a Diabetic ketoacidosis event.
He is currently taking 5 units of Lantus twice a day. He eats some wet and hour before his injection.
He primarily eats wet with low carbs, usually Tiki or Fancy Feast Classic Pate and a snack of Wysong Epigen 90 as of 7/22 and his glucose levels have gone down a lot since the Wysong.
Previously his dry snack was Prescription Diet w/d.
I still feel as though we are not in a steady place yet.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. I am new to treating a cat with diabetes.
Sunny's Spreadsheet

I’m sure someone else will reply later but to me it seems like 5 is too much - looking at your spreadsheet I would be weary of shooting the full dose when you are getting numbers below 200 but definitely 5 units when you got the 45 is dangerous. 45 is considered much too low for a cats blood sugar and you have the danger of them going hypo glycemic which is dangerous. I would suggest you reduce the dose and don’t shoot such low numbers anymore. One of the more knowledgeable members will be along shortly I’m sure with more specific advice for you. In the meantime get more mid cycle tests to see how low the dose is taking your kitty which is how you figure out the dose your cat will need. Usually somewhere between 4-6 hours after your cats shot.

5.0 units is way too much insulin. If you are following SLGS for dosing, you reduce the dose by 0.25 units whenever you see a number below 90. That 45 on 7/24 tells me the dose is too high. Is it possible for you to get any testing in the middle of the cycle (time between shots). Lantus curves are lower in the middle and that's when you'll see how low Sunny is going on that dose. We determine how to change the dose based on those lows. For example, if you see a number below 90, you reduce the dose immediately. I would go back to 4.5 units, though I suspect that is also too much insulin. A curve or more mid cycles tests will help you decide.

Welcome Damon and Sunny

Do you have a hypo kit set up
Between 11% and 17% is medium carbs.

18% and over is high carb. and some honey

Such as
Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers Gourmet Beef Feast in Gravy 20% High Carbs

Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers Gourmet Chicken Feast in Gravy 15% Med Carbs

Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers Turkey Feast in Gravy 15% Med Carbs

Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers Chicken and Beef in Gravy 15% Med Carbs

Good idea to mark the cans with magic marker how many carbs

Or any on the food chart.

Does Sunny have any other health conditions? It looks like your starting dose was much higher than most cats. Usually a staring dose is 1 unit. I am wondering if you missed Sunny's optimal dose. Too much insulin can also appear as if it is not working. To protect against hypoglycemia, the body will produce extra glucose when too much insulin is given. Most cats only need between 1 - 2 units.
