Hi all. I'm trying to be preventative and also cautious, but I broke down b/c Murphy just stopped eating wet food. She does in fact have a heart gallop, but after what I've read, it can also come from a deficiency in taurine in a cat's diet, which would make sense since she nearly starved to death with the sitter while I was hospitalized. Anyways, I'm here b/c I had to break down and give her dry food, and left a little out last night and this morning, as I was waking up, she was booting Oscie away from the dish to get her own. I just checked her BG and it was 146. Any ideas on how I can handle this would be greatly appreciated. She does seem to have a little more energy since I gave her the two servings of dry food. Could it be that it is in fact a taurine deficiency?
The other thing is that she did have hock in her back legs. What is in her front legs is severe muscle and ligament damage from all of the jumping up and down when she was overweight b/4 her Dx of diabetes. If the Cushings did come prior to the diabetes, and the Cushings has subsided due to the decrease in her Flovent, then maybe it is possible that I can keep her on some dry food.
Or, I need to take her to see a cat therapist! She seems to want to eat a little wet but I have to put her little freeze-dried duck treats b/4 she will even attempt it.
And, the other important thing is that she gets her panakare still, along with the Cosequin and acetyl l-carnitine. How am I supposed to give this to her?
I'm truly at a loss, but I'm here b/c this is tricky business for her and the risk of becoming diabetic to me, is REAL, don't you agree?
Any suggestions on any of this would be helpful.
