The vet said they don't recommend monitoring blood glucose unless via a CGM, they can only prescribe caninsulin unfortunately here, they are basically dismissing my concerns and said any advice I get online "might just be people lying".
Oh, gosh, that's pretty shocking. I'm so sorry that your concerns have been dismissed...

BTW, the RVC actually recommend hometesting of blood testing where that is possible. And the ISFM (International Society of Feline Medicine) also recommend it....

You're doing a good job. Chin up, love. (((Hugs)))

I’m sorry you’re going through this. Did they explain what they’d be doing to stabilize him? When you pick him up, do not leave without prescriptions for anti nausea meds, ideally Cerenia and ondansetron. Hopefully, they’re giving him a Cerenia shot.

He has a urine infection which thanks to someone's incompetence has been allowed to fester for a week as nobody caught it when we phoned in twice last week

For all today's vet's absolute dismissal of 'what do people on the Internet know about veterinary care' people on this forum suggested it as a possible cause (after his couple of accidents last week) and their vets let it slip through unnoticed (Mom said they seemed entirely unconcerned about the wee accidents earlier in the week)

He's been put on antibiotics but is still refusing food and water which I expected as he doesn't eat and holds his bladder if we have to be away from home and that's with me there.

I believe they have him on a drip as he was dehydrated this morning. They said they were going to try and stabilise his insulin.

This thread has now hit 50 posts so I'll start a new one but right now I need to rest and my brain isn't working.

I hope they know at least that he needs to eat or he’ll develop ketones and they should be able to feed him via a tube through his nose. Please ask abou that if you can. At least they finally caught the UTI, but I doubt that’s the reason he’s not eating. Can you also ask if they’ve given him a shot of Cerenia?

They said they would give anti nausea meds. I don't think he will eat while he's frightened by himself, I'm very worried about it. I hope they do know he needs to eat :( one would assume they do but in light of other things they've said it's a worry.

As expected, in the vet's care charlie deteriorated overnight. I have been asked to go and say goodbye.

Thank you for all of your support throughout this experience.
