Hi
My cat Scrabble is on day 3 of his otj trial! and doing great! Woo hoo! Scrabble has always had dry skin but I noticed today when I was brushing him that it seemed excessively dry. Just wondering if anyone knows of anything I can do for that? thanks for looking!!!

Hey Michelle!

I think you can give flax oil or fish oil in with his food. I believe vegetable oil or olive oil could work as well...or maybe just a higher fat food? Max has always had dry skin and some dandruff (hard to miss with the black fur!), but since we switched to all canned it's almost completely gone. Our drooler has always had issues with dry skin, and our vet told us to give him a flax or fish oil capsule once a day. He's stopped eating it (the booger!), so he no loner gets it unless we break it open and pour it over his food, but when he does eat it, he doesn't have dandruff anymore. He's about 90lbs, tho, so I would think maybe just a quarter teaspoon of oil every other day for a cat? I'm sure someone else will have some suggestions, but I do know the flax and fish oil both have the omega-3 fatty acids in them, which is what helps with the skin and coat. Or if he'll eat it (and you can afford it), you could give him some salmon a couple times a week.
