During this time of uncertain health risks and especially since FDMB is a worldwide community, we want to make sure you and your kitties are safe. As you have heard us state repeatedly, safety is our priority.

Please do not panic in the face of a pandemic. Panic doesn’t help. Rational precaution and preparation is helpful. In light of thinking through what you and your furry family may need, please consider the following. You may want to stock up (and not stockpile):
  • Insulin, lancets, syringes, and strips
  • Food at various carb levels (low, medium, and high)
  • Corn syrup (Karo, etc.) or the equivalent
  • Treats
  • Litter
  • If your cat has prescription medication other than insulin, make sure you have refills or copies of the prescription and/or extra medication on hand
  • If you feed your kitty a raw diet, make sure you have access to your preferred proteins and you may want to stock up and freeze a back-up supply. Likewise, make sure you have enough of the supplements or pre-mix to make the food.
  • Ketostix
  • Subcutaneous fluids along with lines and harpoons
  • Miscellaneous supplies (e.g., cotton balls, pain ointment)
Please consider that many of the above items can be delivered if you have to quarantine or are concerned about going out to shop. Amazon (mostly) provides a worldwide service. In the US, Chewy’s delivers most of the items above. EBay may be a resource for some items and ADW is also a resource for diabetic supplies. Many brick and mortar stores, both retail (e.g., Walmart) and grocery stores, also provide delivery services.

@Sienne and Gabby (GA) with your approval this could be added and obviously shortened/edited.
If things get bad enough people will either panic or not show up for work. Electrical workers and truckers make the world go round and if they don't show up for work then.... Get a flashlight that can double as a lantern for your cat's testing and shots.
This has happened to me. Screaming down the highway to emergency and I had to stop for gas AND windshield washer fluid.
We always have a map and directions to the nearest emergency clinic on the side of the fridge. If I leave the house to visit a sick family member then I leave Cynthia without a car so she'll have to explain all this to a cab driver that doesn't want a puking cat in his car.
Your "GO" bag. Your meter has a memory, bring it and extra batteries. Don't assume a clinic has the same type of insulin. Take care of yourself, no one should be making hard choices after sleeping on a plastic chair for 12 hours without food. Again, this has happened to me.

Good suggestions. I must for a big chewy order yesterday and another insulin is arriving in the next couple days even though I won't need it for a few weeks. My family is all home for at least the next two weeks as we are both teachers. Got thrown head first into learning how to do distance learning with Google classroom. This should be.... Interesting. :blackeye: ;)

I always have "GO Bags" packed. I live in a nuclear evacuation zone, so if there was ever a leak at Seabrook power station, I could get my cat in a carrier, grab 3 bags and I'm out of here. Stuff for the cat, stuff for me. I could be gone in < 5 minutes.

Just went through everything this morning, and made sure all the supplies in my "Go bags" were current.

Member @HelloKrystie is a truck dispatcher. You should check out her thread over in the Prozinc ISG. She included a picture of truckers lined up on a 2 lane road, waiting to get into a place so they could pick up "the goods" to get to the stores. She said it was worse outside the Proctor & Gamble plants.

Litter alternatives.
Wood pellet fuel.
Horse and small animal bedding.
Pine Pellets
Sawdust (local place has this for free all the time) Bring your own container.
Sand
Dirt

Alternative places to purchase supplies
Dollar stores. (Dollar General, Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, Ocean State Joblot, etc.)
Home/garden center
Farming supply store (Agway, Tractor Supply, etc.)

Raw meat by mail order
Hare Today

Anyone know of anyplace else that may ship raw meat? @Susan & Claudio was looking.

This won't stop new members from coming here for help, can't blame this on cats.
Some of these people will have a lot of extra time on their hands and are already stressed to the max. You don't have to be clever or make promises, they just need to know we're still here.

I googled Savage and came up with nothing pertaining to raw food.
If all else fails, he will eat whatever my civie eats. I prefer Claudio eats raw. Trying to switch civie over to raw. Took me 2 months to get civie off of dry and onto canned only. Stubborn bugger. :banghead:
Just place a large order with Amazon for Friskies.

Bumping to top again

Amazon is refusing all order starting the 17th (yesterday) if they are non-essential. Medical and pet supply orders are still going through however.

Hope everyone has plenty of syringes if they purchase via Walmart - I just grabbed the last box at my store today according to the cashier.

Good to know about Amazon. Guess my son's birthday present will have to wait. He'll understand, I hope .
Yes, I got syringes while at Wally World today too. Insulin is useless without syringes.

Please have a backup plan in place, if you get sick and can't take care of your cats.
A friend or relative that can take in your cat, or come over to help.
Another person living where you are in your same home. Roommate, buddy, significant other, husband/wife. You get the idea.

Check with the vet and see if they could board your pet or if one of the vet techs could come to your home to help out.

Many vets here in the USA are not letting pet owners into the vet clinic building. You have to meet someone from the vet clinic in the parking lot, and they will do what testing and care is needed while talking to you by cell phone.

They are not refusing all orders. What they are doing is only accepting incoming goods to their warehouses for specific categories of goods.

"Amazon said in an email to sellers that it was now prioritizing shipment in the following six categories: baby product; health and household (including personal-care appliances); beauty and personal care; grocery; industrial and scientific; pet supplies."

Amazon is NOT stopping shipments to consumers. They are stopping non-essential items from their suppliers and 3rd parties to the Amazon warehouses. https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-amazon.

That's what I meant lol.

Non-essential items are being delayed/stopped. I had to even cancel some orders that were placed prior to the announcement because they're extending delivery times as well.
