This is my first time reordering syringes since starting ProZinc. I was getting syringes for Lantus at Walgreens. $16 for 100 syringes. Walgreens does not carry these U-40; 3/10 cc, for 12 units or less; 1/2" needle length, 29 guage needles.

My Vet's office told me on the phone today that I can only get these at their office. They are charging $35 complete with the cannister for disposal. (I used to put the used syringes in a milk container and take them to my vet - a different vet).

So I'm wondering about my options for places of purchase. I don't want to buy the wrong item in an effort to save money.

Thank you.

Unfortunately you are more limited to buying U40 needles from the vet. But I do think you can get them some places online too. Just watch for shipping costs. Does your vet carry syringes marked in 0.5 unit doses? It is very hard to eyeball .25 for example when the syringes are only marked by the unit.

Your other alternative is to use the U100 needles you used with Lantus and the conversion chart (necessary because you are using U40 insulin and U100 needles.) http://www.felinediabetes.com/insulin-conversions.htm
Lots of members here use U100s because you can shoot tiny gradients like 0.2 fairly easily. Vets are not always keen on it - worrying you might forget or mess up the conversion or maybe because you can get the syringes so much cheaper at the pharmacy.

My vet's syringes do not have .5 doses so I've just been guessing after taking one and studying it and marking it up. I thought about the U-100 syringes and using the conversion chart, but I don't trust myself. There's a lot going on in the mornings already; fights break out (which I have to break up, usually while I'm drawing insulin) with the two cats, since Morgan went on insulin and Reilly is on the attack. I have to rub Amitriptyline in Reilly's ear every morning; and he has a lot of poopy problems (which become my problem). Sorry, probably too much information. With everything going on, I'd be afraid I could easily make a mistake. It certainly would solve a lot of problems though.

Thanks so much for the information and link! I'll have to check the shipping costs for ADW.
