Hi,

With regard to my other post i been looking at changing our cats food in the near future he is on md tinned food with some MD dried food mixed in, This is what the vet suggested when we first started his shots but i have been informed on here that is not really the best for him and a low carb tinned food would be better,

we have 2 other cats and would like to get them all onto the same normal tinned food i see other people on here just feed normal food from the supermarket but most of what i have seen mentioned is in the US or Canada anyone suggest a tinned food i can look at in the UK?

Thanks

Here's a link to Janet's non-US food charts : http://binkyspage.tripod.com/nonusfd.html

If you scroll down, you will see a list of UK canned foods, Check the third column (the percentage of calories from carbohydrates) and choose ones that are under 10%... even under 7%. Several are Felix brand in jelly.

Hopefully that helps!

(If you find foods that are not on Janet's list, the next best thing is to label read- avoid obvious grains (wheat, rice, corn) and other carbs (potatoes, peas, fruits and veggies, etc.) and things called "food starch".. which I assume is cornstarch, but the "starch" part says "stay away" to a sugarcat.)

Hi,

Thanks thats just what i needed i should have looked on here more ;), Can i go to low with carbs? i see there are some that are 2%

You can't really go too low with low carb. Just stay away from fish - maybe once or twice a week. It has mercury and can become the only thing the kitty will eat, which can be a problem.

Please make sure you are home testing his blood glucose before changing foods. The low carb can dramatically change insulin needs.

I apologize if you got this *warning* before - just don't want you facing a possible hypo crisis.

Hi there

Bozita cat food is great too - The chunks in jelly or the Pate (1.5% carb) no added cereals or sugars either. You have to buy online but these are good for value: http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/cann ... zita/42670 (no P&P if you order over £19 worth)

and this site is brilliant - you have to pay for P&P but they will ship stuff out to you next day if you are desperate - amazing customer service (and packs are in english as against the zooplus ones which are in german) also brilliant if you want to try out just one of each flavour
