Not sure if anyone is still up. I gave Diego his insulin around 6:30 PM, and his sugar is actually going up!

:( I checked about three hours in, then checked again just now and it's up even higher (started at 229 pre-insulin, then 237 three hours in, now 271 five hours in). That never happens. I know it wasn't a fur shot because I felt the needle come out, but I did hit a spot with some resistance, so I may have hit the wrong spot. Could that be the cause? Even if hitting what felt like the "wrong" spot in the past, this hasn't happened. This morning he had 254 pre-shot, then went down to 127 about six hours in, so that seemed somewhat more normal.

Quick update to my signature (I'll have to fix it) - he's currently on 7.5mg pred daily, and his Flovent 220 1 puff 2x day. He also recently had a "break" from the insulin per his vet, followed by trying Lantus 1x daily. He's been back on it 2x day for about a week. Does seem to be feeling not so hot the last few days, so not sure if he's having a pancreatitis flare. Asked the vet the other day about raising his pred again temporarily, but was turned down.

His numbers are not that bad considering everything. Pred and diabetes don't do well together. You might want to post in the Lantus forum where more experienced people will see

Thanks! I posted there too. His diabetes is secondary to his pancreatic surgery, and to date the pred hasn't seemed to have a huge effect on his numbers. He was on the pred when his numbers got low and his vet wanted to pull him off insulin (though I thought he wasn't in remission yet and just due to switching him to a lower carb food). Wondering too if maybe I need to replace his insulin (it's about 2.5 months old and I'm probably not the best at handling it when trying to measure and get air bubbles out (lots of insulin out and back into the vial)). Still, tonight seems REALLY weird, and doesn't help me feel better that he's been feeling lousy the last few days :( Since restarting him on insulin, I am having a hard time getting him leveled out again.

This happens to Squallie quite a lot, especially at night. I don't really know why, except numbers seem to run higher at night, in general.

Just a tip: If you're using Lantus it's not really a good idea to shoot overdraws back into the bottle. The syringes are coated inside with a lubricant that can contaminate your insulin. :)

Thanks! It's definitely possible that I messed up the Lantus a bit - if that is the issue, I'd actually be relieved despite having to buy a new vial. I'm more worried than anything since he definitely had a flare up this week of either his IBD or pancreatitis, so hoping it's not from that!
