Hello All,
I am needing some help with my girls... Bean is doing great if I can just keep her out of my Gumpy's food (spreadsheet is up to date). Gumpy is now on Royal LP food.. she kinda likes the dry and HATES THE WET...However, Bean will get into both.... My question for help is this....I am needing to find some kind of wet food that Gumpy would like but that would be good for her and Bean...ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREAT... got to keep Bean's sugar in check and Gumpy's situation in check too.
ty and hope everyone is having a great holiday week end!

What stage of renal failure is Gumpy in? The general consensus now is that low protein diets aren't as important as a high quality protein source and low phosphorus. There are several kitty parents on here that have diabetic kitties with CRF that juggle both diseases with food. Maybe if you do a search for CRF diet on the main forum here, you should come up with some alternatives.

I'm in the same spot, Ohbell--and I have do something about it soon because they need to graze while I'm at work. I'll look for info too.

At some point over the weekend, someone in the same situation who was nursemaiding me said that they mix FF with boiled pureed chicken because it cuts the phosphorus levels and keeps the carbs down too. I'll try and find it.

Bodie is early CRF, so I have a bit of flexibility, but still, I don't want to make his problems worse!

Found it, it was from Claudia and Rocket:

I see you have a CRF kitty as well and you are trying to manage both kitties with different dx.....once you get over the shock and overwhelming feeling from the test/feed/shoot with Cheekyface perhaps you can get down to getting into a comfortable diet that is suitable for both kitties....

My Rocket has both CRF and Diabetes...plus other illnesses and all i can say is that they're both manageable...

as far as getting to lower the phosphorus content in the Fancy Feast foods and for your CRF kitty to eat it as well...what i do with Rocket is that i boil chicken thighs (trim the fat and boil it with the bone)...and i pure it and mix it in his Fancy feast....chicken and turkey breast are HIGH in phosphorus so perhaps good for Cheekyface but not so for your CRF kitty....and Cheekyface can have the chicken thigh as it is ZERO carbs...

Hope this helps. I'm trying it tonight.

This page has almost all brands of foods listed with phosphorus levels in descending order:

click on wet or dry food and once there, scroll down. xoxoxo

Thanks! I actually have that site bookmarked but never got around to reading the whole list, it's excellent and I see that I could get away with some of the Hills Science flavours.

I must admit, now that I've weaned both of them off dry food because of Cheeky's diabetes, Bodie actually ate some Hills k/d for me last week :-D I mixed it with a bit of 'people' tuna and the water to give it some flavour (I have to say I wouldn't eat it, it looks like poo!!!!). The raw meat I give them for grazing has added calcium to bind the phos, so if I can keep the half-k/d going that should help him a lot.

I'm exhausted trying to do the best for both of them @-)
