i found mr b stepping up to the toilet today. This is new behavior. Never has done this before. I helped him navigate the bowl, though i wasnt too happy about this, and he did try to drink but its very cold water and he couldnt manage it. Is this some sort of secret code?

He is more sensitive to cold water these last couple months. Vet has checked teeth (he doesnt have many left)

He has 2 bowls of water at all times. I often refill with warmer water but of course it cools.

Why the sudden interest in toilet water? this happen to anyone?

Not a clue, Jen. I know that cats do get "ideas" about things and that'll be what they want to do for a period of time. Could just be another sign of FD thirst and there's something that makes this location more alluring than his bean-approved water bowls.

And now he hung out in the bathroom while i showered, which he never does. Then he skidded and slipped and tried to jump in after i was done. I helped him. He's in the tub now. o_O

Is he peeing OK, Jen?
Yes he was peeing like crazy last night. Has calmed down now.

This behavior last night was a sign something was wrong. He was so thirsty he was trying to find water that 'worked' to quench him, since the usual water in his bowl wasnt cutting it.

He drinks less when he has high numbers from lack of insulin than when he has had too much insulin that makes him drop fast. I've learned a lot from these recent two episodes.

His numbers are not great today but he is drinking and peeing less and able to get some sleep.

Awww, the poor fella.

Very astute observation, Jen. Glad he's resting better today. I feel for you both.

Sending you both a very big :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug: (I think ye could both do with it.)

We noticed this behavior from our cat just prior to being diagnosed, sudden drinking from the toilet, laying in the bath tub, wanting to watch the sink when I had it on. I feel most was due to hyperglycemia, but he did have DKA as well when first diagnosed.

One of my civies will practically get into the shower with me...he's healthy and has done this from the time he first came to me as a kitten. I also have 2 dogs who demand their water from the toilet...I have 3 toilets so keep one clean and fresh for them!

Both our kitties have obsessions with drinking water from the dripping bathtub faucet- have for years. We just leave it on a slow drip for them now always.

Ozzy did seem to go in there more often and would lay in the tub as well before we learned he had FD. I have noticed actually that he is doing that a lot less now.

Good luck with your kitty. Hope he is ok!
