Anyone have any success stories on the Flea medicines. I've been using frontline for years and worked great. Now doesn't work anymore and fleas and ticks everywhere. Tried Advantage II this month, but still too many fleas and ticks.

I would love to hear what you all use that works????

I personally use Revolution for all my animals and have had great success with it. It is vet prescription only though.

We had our dog and 2 cats get fleas, and I had rats I wanted to treat as a preventative too. So instead of buying one for the dog, one for the cats, and one for the rats and having a bunch go to waste, I used the dog stuff on all of them, and just adjusted the dose according to the concentration of medication on the package. I don't recommend doing this without vet guidance/heavy research as the ingredients might have changed since then, but it worked very well for us and saved a bit of money.

I use Revoution as well.

You can also get it w/o a script from 4 corners pharmacy. It's in New Zealand. And it's less expensive. I used them for Curry's asthma meds.

It can take a couple of weeks for it to arrive so you may want to get some now from your vet and then from 4 corners for the future.

I switched my two from Frontline+ to Revolution this month, and so far, so good. Capstar also worked wonders to kill the fleas immediately.

i use Capstar if i see any fleas as it kills whatever fleas are on the cats in no time at all, less than half an hour i'd say. then i treat with either Revolution or Advantage. I had a flea jump on me out in the yard a few weeks ago so to be safe I had the yard sprayed and treated all the cats with Advantage since I had some on hand. Seems to have done the job. Haven't seen anything since. I too buy the big dog stuff and dole out the appropriate dose to the cats. I can treat all my cats with one vial of the big dog size Advantage. Very economical to do it that way too :-)

I did talk to my vet the last time i was in and she said we're being hit big time with fleas AND ticks out here this year. ticks aren't something usually worried too much about here in so cal but apparently this year it's going to be. she said she's found 3 on her dogs already this year so she's treating all hers monthly right now and putting tick collars on the dogs while outside. she said she takes the tick collars off the dogs when they come in though as they are toxic to the cats. don't know what brand she's using. she said she doesn't normally worry about treating monthly but this summer she is doing it.

Fleas have been known to become immune to different brands of the spot ons. I am surprised the Advantage didnt work after the Frontline became ineffective.

Please if you are going to put dog meds on cats make SURE its a flea product that contains safe ingredients for cats. Some companies make the dog versions with different and or stronger chemicals.

You may know already, but there are plenty of counterfeit flea products out there. Make sure any online purchases are from reputable sources...and make sure your vet is too.

And do NOT use ANY Hartz product. they are dangerous.

Its probably the Preventic Collar, which is toxic to cats.. Advantage 2 doesnt kill ticks.

Thanks for all the input! Does the regular advantage kill ticks too? I thought only the frontline+ killed the fleas. I've thought about using the capstar, but they go outside everyday and know they will just pick of the fleas again so didn't know if it was worth doing.

Does the revolution kill ticks?

Has anyone heard of First Shield?

Oh, i got to find something that works. It's just terrible this year!

revolution is good for fleas, ticks, ear mites, and a few other things. here's the first result that popped up when i googled "revolution flea"

i don't believe the advantage gets ticks. i just used it because that's what i have right now and it's always worked for me in the past. if i see another flea this year i'll probably get some more Revolution. god forbid i see a tick. i grew up with those suckers and i'll be plenty happy to never deal with them again in my life

A couple weeks ago revolution was running a sales promo which might still be going on. Buy six get two free, or buy nine get three free.

I use Advantage and have been very pleased with it. I have a litter of kittens that were living under my parents house and when I brought them home, they were saturated with fleas. The kitten Advantage worked great with no side effects and all of the fleas were dead within a few hours.

Mine are outdoor cats during the day nd come inside at night. So i guess they just keep getting the fleas. I gave one of my cats the capstar pill(1/2) the other night because the fleas were so bad. The fleas all fell off him. It was great. Howver, he threw up for two days after. So will never give that to him again. It worked though.

Maybe the Advantage!! needs time to build up in the system? I will stick with it another month and then try something else. They get lots of ticks too and need something for this also.
