Struggling for direction

So my Miss Minky is close to remission. I am down to .1 units of insulin which some days is great and some days like today makes me doubt whether I even gave it to her. I keep testing the dosage 5 to 10 times before I give it to make sure I am going to give the right amount. Most days I am pretty confident, but it is taking a toll on me.

I have put down Dr. Elsey's food and sometimes it spikes her and sometimes it doesn't. The thing is she really likes the food...really likes it. So much so that I can see her wet food is not as appetizing. I have to leave down the dry food for when I am not around because her sister is allergic to the low carb wet food--can't find a substitute that works for both currently that they both like and can eat. I thought the Sure Feed machine was the fix but it doesn't keep wet food cool and they don't like food that has been refrigerated (cold) and then put out; I know it will thaw but they don't always have the patience for that. They would just rather go hungry.

As she has come down in her sugar levels, she now requires feeding every 2 hours (it isn't a put on--she genuinely is hungry and coming from DKA, I don't want to deny her). I am not home for a good portion of the day which means a substantial amount of dry kibble is now down, albeit it lower carb). She used to eat every 4 hours so I could feed before I left for work, feed during my lunch, and feed when I came home with an hour or so of wiggle room and it was okay. I just tested her and she is 191 and has been rising ever since her insulin this morning. I am beginning to think perhaps my hope her going into remission is a pipe dream. There are to many factors conspiring against it.

By the time PMPS comes along, I am pretty sure she will be will over 200 and .1 is not going to dent it. Then does that start an endless cycle that starts her higher again? *sigh* Thank you for any insight and wisdom. Perhaps there is a way and because I am so new to this, I just can't see it. Thank you everyone for your support. This forum has been super helpful, and I nor Minky would ever have made it this far without it!

Keep going with the 0.1 dose. You need to be seeing all green for remission.
You may have to stay with this dose for some time. Only time will tell...and you may need to go up in dose again. Only time will tell.
Are you using syringes? How do you get the 0.1 dose?
I would suggest you post daily oven the Lantus page where you will get a lot more help

Welcome to FDF, you are in the right place, we all have felt overwhelmed, I can suggest a programable wet feeder, they have good ones at great prices you can put up to 3-4 meals for the day, not all cat go into remission, but they stabilized, my Corky is a great example he was diagnosed going to 3 years, he will be a lifetime diabetic but if you see his spreadsheet down below, he is doing amazing, the important thing is to get your kitty stabilized :bighug::cat::cat:

Unfortunately it also has to be rfid because the other sister can't get into it. That seems to be harder to find. :( I am so glad your kitty is stable.

With the amount that you're testing, have you ever given consideration to trying TR? TR is a more aggressive approach to dosing. You would evaluate the dose every 3 days. Personally, I think Minky needs more insulin. There can be a fair amount of ups and downs in dose before a cat's pancreas is working more efficiently.

I was only testing a lot the last three days because we were on break. Today we went back.
