It's been a long time since I've needed help. My cat Tony who is like 12 has been having his fair share of issues. Been diabetic for many years with really no issues once he was regulated. He's had a few hypoglycemic episodes thru the years but recently he had a really bad one. I determined it to be his mouth was sore as he has flares with stomatitis. He was walking in circles and was temporarily blind. After regulating his insulin again and put on antibiotics for his mouth it wasn't enough. He wasnt responding to the antibiotics. So with warning it would throw off his levels yet again he was put on a trestment with prednisolone. As promised his levels jumped very high and had to compensate the insulin. He did well on the pred. No more spazing out when eating. Inflammation was better. He acted better being able to eat with little to no pain. He's been off the pred now since fri and he's back to spazing when eating he's very painful again. If he can't eat he drops in numbers. Vet said we could try something called Atopica. But dose would be 10mg twice daily. And a box of 15 pills cost like 25 bucks. I can't afford that per week. Does anyone know what would be safe for a diabetic cat to help with the stomatitis inflammtion in his mouth? He only has three teeth left. Inflammation is in his gums where there isn't any teeth. Please he's miserable. I need advice. Thank you.

Ok ty I'll give that a try. I just figured here cause the diabetes is why it's making it hard to treat.

Well with the stomatitis making him so miserable, that's the most important thing to find an answer for....If it means giving more insulin to control the diabetes, so be it.

Exactly. But the vet suggested the Atopica as it doesn't affect insulin as much as the pred. But at 20 bucks a week I need to know if anyone has used it and their thoughts. I have 3 diabetic cats that get insulin twice a day. My dog is healing from a ruptured disc in his back 8 weeks ago. We just moved 3 months ago. Hasn't been a good time here. I just would like to know what others have used for a drug for inflammation in their diabetic cats so I can run them past my vet for additional ideas.

I've seen others over there with diabetic cats (haven't spent a lot of time reading there lately though), but I know I've seen others use the Atopica, so maybe someone knows a cheap place to get it or has some other ideas of things you could try

Hopefully you'll still hear from others here, but since it's not something I'm having to deal with, I wanted to offer you at least an idea of someplace else to turn for some advice

Atopica has helped some, according to the Yahoo Feline Stomatitis group. They have a lot of files in their group, so you might find it helpful to join them. Full mouth extraction has the best chance of controlling the stomatitis.

He only has three teeth left. But the majority of the inflammation is in areas that do not have any teeth at all.

@Kelly68 -

I don't have any experience with stomatitis but I just wanted to tell you I'm sorry to hear how tough a time you're having at the moment. Saying a little prayer and sending healing thoughts for your little one. I really hope things improve soon for you all.
