Stinky-some questions

I haven't posted for a week or so-my human children have been playing a game of Let's Alternate Who Can Be More Sick! In the end, I won. I still need to post Stinky's story in the remissions area & will try to do that in the next couple of days. For now though, I have a couple of questions:

1.) Hubs accidentally gave Stinky some food w/sauce at last night's late feeding & again for breakfast. When I realized what he'd done, I checked a BG & it was a good 30 pts higher than it has been. It sill only put him at 104, but do I need to be concerned that this is going to cause a problem? Should I monitor his BG for the next day or so until he's back to the 70's? I made sure to give him the lowest carb food we have for lunch & he'll get that again for dinner.

2.) He also seems to be getting a bit of a cold; his eye is "blinky" & his nose is drippy-could that affect his BG?

3.) At what point should I get rid of our bottle of ProZinc? The exp date is 11/2012, but I can't imagine it's actually good that long if we started using it in 10/2011.

OK, first. Slap the hubby! No, this shouldn't cause any long term problems. Once the food is gone, it's gone. Better sauce than dry, which tends to stick around longer. You can check him of course, but one meal of gravy isn't going to put him back on insulin.

Not really sure. I know infections can raise BG, and so can pain. But again, once the condition goes away, he should be fine. If the BG goes up a bit, getting over the cold should bring him back down.

I would keep it. It should be good till then. As long as it doesn't "look bad", like a lot different than it does now, it should be okay. If for some reason you need it, it'll be there. Much better than needing it and having to wait a couple days to get some new, and lots cheaper too since it's already paid for!
Actually, Bob's vial expired in August. It's still in my fridge. Kept it as a souvenir to remind me never to buy high carb food again! When he passes 10 years or more from now (he's 12), I'll let him take it with him across the bridge. Like a badge of honor or something.
You have the "newbie to OTJ" jitters! It's hard, I know. But they do lessen with time. Hopefully never go away, but it's a lot easier to deal with today than it was in July for me.
Carl
