I tried aquarium gravel when we first found out about the asthma. Mixed it at first with litter etc, but a no go. :(
Anything close to confining is perceived as a threat still after all this time.
I tried again a few times today and like usual failed.
I quote 'where there is a will, there is a way' and I'm still determined (frustrated) to find it.
Care to all you good people and of course mostly! to the kitties. ;)

I'm not sure what all you've tried, but the best advice I have is to try desensitizing her. Pick the testing spot and go there multiple times a day, don't try to test, just pet, and treat. Add ear rubs, rice sock or whatever other steps gradually adding lots of treats. Be sure you're relaxed, nonchalant but determined, they can sense any nerves or frustrations, try singing - it can relax you!

@Chris & China gave me some good advice for ear pricks in this old 4/17 post, towards the bottom.

I am sorry you are having so much trouble testing Martini.
I remember waking up every morning before 4 AM, worrying and strategizing about testing Yum.
I was lucky because she never really minded the pokes, it was more the pokes on demand---right here, right now.
Chasing her was a big no-no. Being anything but completely calm was a big no-no.
At first I took my meter and her to the vet's office for the pokes---the techs would do it for free with my supplies. My vet is close by. Could you do that?
I think Yum decided home testing was better than a trip to the vet. She also decided she didn't want to be at war with me.
I think the post-test treats also helped.
Maybe Chris' suggestions re desensitizing Martini's ears would be applicable to you.
Good luck. (All my cats are ex-ferals. I live in terror of the less socialized ones getting diabetes or requiring daily meds---but I remember love and patience always win in the end.)

Go in with determination. Get 28 gauge lancets. Warm up that ear. Put a cotton pad, go a little more than half way up the ear on the outer edge, and poke ALL THE WAY THROUGH ... 2-3 times in a row in the same spot if you have to.
