Bubba is still not interested in eating like his usual self. He was 185 this morning which is low for him. I have switched up his usual Fancy Feast Turkey with Wellness Turkey and Salmon. He only ate about an ounce of a new flavor. And yesterday evening he ate 3 oz of Wellness Chicken. He was interested in eating a bite of salmon and drinking all the broth I poached it in. I did shot 1 unit and hope that it wasn't too much? He was interested in going out to hunt after his injection. Hope that maybe he is just changing his eating style from binger to grazer??? Does any one else see their sugar babies changing their eating style? It's just so foreign with Bubba. Pee and poop in the box this AM. Everything else seems fine, just not inhaling his food anymore.

Yes, it is possible that he is in lower ranges and feeling better and no longer has that feeling of starving. We could hope that his body is using the food more efficiently. If everything else seems okay, I would figure that unless you see a change in peeing, pooping, playing.....

Hi Bobbie
I am pretty new to all this myself! Dx: 6/15
But. Anything about food I am reading now! My 2 cents about Tucker's eating style changes: It really corresponds with his BG I am finding. I can pretty much tell even before pretest, if he is high or low, by his behavior around the food, or even the feeding area.
I also did a little food sensitivity experiment yesterday, out of frustration, mind you and he is VERY food sensitive, spiking on mere morsels sometimes!
I am having to adjust feeding times, flavors and amounts. It's pretty overwhelming, in and of itself!
Thinking of you and your darling Bubba with all the best thoughts. -Brenda

Thanks for you reply Brenda, curious, how do you do the food sensitivity experiment? It is very overwhelming. When these little stinkers don't want to eat and you've got to get insulin in them, it makes for a nervous mommy. I am like a little old lady running after him, "eat, eat, here try this flavor". We will get through this!

okay, I will try to settle down about it; it's just so new to me for him not to eat everything. After I posted, I spied him in the backyard munching on a mouse which made me feel better that he was eating something. I just tested him at 3.5+ and he is down to 155. He will probably hit a normal range by nadir. I will keep a close watch on him.

LOL Bobbie.
Do you know the nutritional values of that mouse?
If you do...you are waaay ahead of my game!
Re: Food Experiment :: Gathered assorted approved flavors of various catfood available to me, AND that I knew Tucker would even remotely eat. I am trying

Well ... based on the research data, a mouse is under 10% calories from carbohydrates, even including whatever seeds are in the GI tract.

Oops...Contd--> I am trying them one at a time.
First up: Fancy Feast Turkey and Giblets Dinner Classic (it is a pate) I tested before I fed.
THEN...I fed 1-2 Tablespoons, diluted w warm water and served.
**Making sure I am never within the 2 hr window for recordable BG test. Because I fear I wasn't feeding correctly, as I didn't feel it hurt at all to give a tiny snack, WHENEVER** Boy, was I wrong-o.
I tested him about 15 mins after, and he was spiking very high. See SS. I made notes in the cells to explain more.

That particular flavor of Turkey&Gibs is supposed to be only 3 carbs. What I was giving religiously was FancyFeast Tuna&Shrimp Feast, Flaked. It is ZERO carbs, and my ENTIRE HOUSEHOLD transitioned EASILY!
Then I found out you can't feed fish every meal. :banghead:
(If you want know the truth, I was pissed)
So, I am going to have to work with this Turkey & his insulin, etc. I don't have alot of options yet.
Does this make sense?
I hope so!
The experiment is on going as time allows. And it gave me invaluable info that I & the Pros here can work with.
:bighug: to you & your fur children

Good job Brenda!! It is very consuming all the testing, reading, and coaxing. Bubba has HAD it with the ear pricking. Today, I offered Stella and Chewy for the first time as I tested him. He loved it and ate it all!! Hurray!!!!! Then, I read in Dr. Lisa's food comparison chart that that company would NOT give her a "typical analazis and made her sign a waiver before giving her the carb count and that she would not use a company that refuses to provide information. So, I think I will reserve it as a treat. It is very pricey.

Well, that's good then. I hate him wanting to hunt and eat his prey because of parasites but, I was glad to see him eating something after a half-ass attempt this AM.

Oh I am so excited!! I think I have something to offer!!
Awhile back I was struggling at test with Tucker too. Sue (@Sue and Oliver (GA) suggested Bonito flakes. Never heard of 'em. Ordered on Amazon quickly.
They are hilarious (to me) little airy things in a resealable bag. I was puzzled how to use, and Tucker didn't understand how to eat them either. I set the little dish down and his exhalations blew them all over the place.
LSS: I learned how to use proper, and within DAYS he was jumping up into our test area, waiting.
They are not too pricey. Well worth it.

Oh, thank you! I will try it. So, how much to you offer? It sounds like fish food.....LOL

Bobbie, I surely know how overwhelmed you are! This is one of my most nagging & upsetting problems too!
But, guess what? We're not the only ones!! When you have time check out this EXCELLENT thread. http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/food-lets-talk.141434/#post-1461498
You can use the info & the laughs!
Yes, I saw that thread and it felt so good to be able to laugh for a change!! Louellen is hysterical and I recommended her to write a cat diary. Cat Ma is funny as well. A little comic relief! What do you use for your regular deworming and do you get it from a pet supply or vet.

At first get him used to the things,by maybe dampening a bit and scatter a few on food he is eating. Or just dampen and put a pinch in a little dish, put under his nose..Tucker went nuts once the scent was 'activated'..and loves them.
I kept mine in a tiny Tupperware thingy, in my "test supply box" Even when they are gone, he will try to lick the inside.
Oh, and they break down to powder towards the end, so I even put tiny pcs of chicken breast into container, & they get 'coated' so he loves that too! We use every drop!!!
BTW, Bonito is really a tuna! So u were right..'fish' food.

My former mother-in-law is Japanese; she used bonito flakes to make her fish stock. I thought it sounded familiar and when I looked it up on line, it came back to me. I will try it! Thanks Brenda.

Amazon, not any particular pet supply. It is pyrantel pamoate suspension. I did some research, and it isn't used for all worm types. As I understood it, it treats the ones felines most typically get.
As 2 of mine came from managed feral colonies, they had congenital ( my opinion) worms, that required regular tx.
The pamoate was suggested to me. Works great and they're keen on the taste.

Pyrantel doesn't work for tapeworms, though. I don't have any experience with those.
Around here, it's round worms!
Super gross.

Bubba has had tapeworms before, the vet sold me drontal. Why can't there be something for all those nasty worms.??? I have used homeopathy in the past too, takes a bit longer to kill but gentler that the poisons.

Something farmers use added to feed: food grade diatomaceous earth. Diatoms are tiny sea creatures. Their skeletons are on the outside (exoskeletons). These left over skeletons are very sharp and cut up the worms in the GI tract.

I have used diatomaceous earth before and stopped when my plumbing got backed up from rinsing the plate and the residue turned into mud in my pipes and blocked the sink up and my husband spent hours roto-rooting the pipes down in the basement. Also, after about a year using, he got worms anyway. I have used it sprinkled all around the foundation of my house and under scrubs to kill fleas. That has been successful.
