? Still hungry.

Would you expect Sassy to still be so hungry even with 1 can FF in am, 1 can midday, 1/2 can two hours before shot and 1 can FF in pm? I don't have a scale, but it seems gaining back weight but still skinny around the hind legs.
Do diabetic cats behave so hungry until there are regulated?
I have been trying to test more often than four times, but she is giving me hard time.
I see her numbers are in the yellow area. Can we glean anything from numbers thus far?
Her urination has been two times per day for past week and the past two days 1x per day, but a good amount, though.
Tested Ketones twice four and three days ago and results were trace amount.
How often should I test ketones?
Thank you.

Cats will be hungry until they are regulated because they can’t properly utilise the nutrients in the food. Are you feeding before every shot?
I would offer a couple of snacks during the cycles say at +3 and plus 5 for both the am and the pm cycle.

If you are getting trace of ketones in the urine you need to be testing for them every day to ensure they don’t increase. You can also offer extra food which will help get rid of ketones and increase the dose of insulin.
Looking at your SS I think you should increase the dose to 1.25 units.
Also look at the top of the Lantus page at the two dosing methods and choose which one you want to follow. If you are getting ketones it might be better to follow tight regulation at least until the ketones disappear and the BG comes down a bit.
Make sure you get a test in before you go to bed every night to see the BG is not dropping too much. If it is set the alarm and test later to see it’s not dropping too low.
Post every day with the ketone result and the BGs and we will help you.

I test and then feed at time of her 8 am shot. I was told not to feed within two hours of her shot.
When you say snacks, what would you suggest?
I found FF has range of protein of 11%-15%. Should I give 1/2 can as a snack?

I will test every night before I go to bed
I will ketone test everyday.
Thank you very much for your help

Has Sassy lost weight with the diabetes.?
I would divide her normal food allocation for the am cycle into the before shot meal and two other snacks. The same for the pm cycle.
If she needs to put on weight, you could increase the amount.

Yes, she has lost weight with diabetes.
When first diagnosed, I was feeding 1/2 of 5 oz am and 1 can 5 oz in pm and nothing through the day and eliminating dry food for midday free feeding. After diagnosed I eliminated dry food. I was not informed by my vet how much to feed a diabetic cat. Shame on me for not asking how much food. remarkable how little info vet provided regarding what to expect and of course told not to self-test.
Her weight declined and I attributed to the diabetes only. Looking back, I should have been feeding Sassy more throughout the day wetfood.
I learned after joining this forum regarding hungry diabetic kitties. Beginning of April I began feeding 1 can FF in am and 1 FF midday and 1 can FF pm.
