It's been almost a week since I've started the subcu fluids and although Sabrina is almost back to normal she still isn't eating much on her own. Right now I'm mixing together the Hills w/d canned with hills w/d dry that I soaked in water add to it about a tsp of water blend it in a food processor and feed her with a syringe. I'm worried she's not getting enough nutrients. Is there something else I could mix in there that will not affect her kidneys and also her diabetes? Thanks!

Sorry you are going through this. I don't know the rest of Sabrina's health history but she needs to eat.
Why dry? Why Hills? Have you looked into other foods? Wellness Chicken for instance is high in calories, low carb., low phosphorous.

I blend it with water and syringe feed.

Have you tried Fancy Feast or Special Kitty wet food?

My vet recommanded Hill MD bc it said diabtic on it. The DAY I took my cat off of it his insulin levels dropped by half. Just an idea. Hills also isnt particularily yummy either.

There is a kitten formula I used to dropper feed my Mario. Maybe that would be helpful?

I know how stressful it is to have to syringe feed your cat. I had a child with a feeding tube and I was dropper feeding my 3 days old kitty for months. All I kept thinking was "Seriously????"

Now, they both eat me out of house and home. There is light at the end of that tunnel. Honestly.

She's 13 and also has kidney problems so she can't eat anything low carb. Her numbers were really high before the Hills w/d and after two weeks on the w/d they were down to a high normal. She was diagonsed with diabetes just over a month ago. She was doing really well until a week ago she completely stopped eating and drinking we took her to the vet and her blood glucose was high but nothing too high to cause concern her creatinine were so high they were off the chart she was so dehydrated they couldn't get blood out of her. They started her immediately on subcu fluids and we have been giving her subcu fluid 2x a day since Saturday. She made a remarkable turnaround but she's not 100% she still won't eat much on her own. I'm sorry if this sounds disjointed I'm so tired and frazzled because in addition to my cats health problems my step mother is also seriously ill and I'm at my wits end right now.

oh and she gets dry because she will not eat canned she hates canned food. I've tried every brand and flavor of canned food available the last 13 years and she wants nothing to do with it.

Low carb is fine for kidneys. You need low phosphorous, eliminating any fish. Wellness chicken and turkey as well as other brands like FancyFeast and Special Kitty.

She needs to eat.

My Shiloh was the King of inappetance. Join Yahoo's group: Feline Assisted feeding. You may need a feeding tube to get over this hump. Not eating enough can lead to fatty liver. Shiloh had feeding tubes twice, once for 7 months and once for 3 months. Good luck. Donna

My Latte had ARF with residual crf. She ended up with IBD/Lymphoma, then pred induced diabetes.
She was not an easy one to get to eat. I had to syringe feed most of her food at one point for nearly 9 months. :(

The best I could come up with, which she would tolerate for feedings on her own and with help, as well as grain free and low carb was Wellness chicken or turkey. They also puree very well. Maybe you could try some of that? After the IBD diagnosis we moved to EVO and Wellness CORE kibble for any free feeding. I think the phos is higher, but calories are also high and carbs low. Do you have any phos binder to add to her food?

Sonia suggested a feeding tube, which may be a good option to get you over the hump, if you can afford and feel it would be right for your kitty.

Im sorry you are going through such a rough time with both your kitty and step mom. I hope you can find time to keep coming here for support.
