I'm not sure if I'm posting this correctly. I just started Lantus this morning. I am switching from pzi. I gave Felix three units at 10:30 a.m. at which time his blood sugar level was 438. I just retested at 1 p.m. and he's up to 466. Should I be concerned

Hi there. And Welcome to Lantus and Levemir. Can you give us some more information? What was the dose that Felix was on when he was on PZI? When was he diagnosed as diabetic?
If you could get a Spread Sheet up and going and put the test numbers into it, that would help us a lot to help you. The instructions are below:

Sticky - FDMB SPREADSHEET INSTRUCTIONS | Feline Diabetes Message Board - FDMB

Since you fed Felix at test and shot time, he has probably a bit of a food hike going on so I wouldn't worry about the jump up to 466. It should come down and the Lantus onset is about +3 so you should see him coming down for you.

Also, can you set up a signature like we all have and you can link the SS to it. If you have any trouble with either the SS or the Signature, just yell and someone will help you.

Hi Maddie.

Welcome to Lantus & Levemir Land - the nicest place you never wanted to be!

First, here is your previous post from last month. It helps if you put a link to you previous post in each day's thread so people can go back to see what has already been discussed.

As Bobbie said, the 466 could be a food spike. It's hard to say on so little info. Have you been home testing long? Any other data you have, including on PZI, would be helpful. If you could set up the spreadsheet, and put all the data you have there, then leave a line or two in between the last day on PZI and first day on Lantus, with a title of "Switched to Lantus" that would be great. Please ask if you need help - we have some people here that are very good at setting up and fixing spreadsheets.

Regarding being concerned, if Felix has been spending a long time in those high numbers, one thing you should be concerned about is ketones. If you aren't already testing for them, I recommend it. You can get ketostix at most pharmacies, over the counter.

Here is a link to a post we put together to help new members get comfortable with this forum: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/updated-tips-for-new-members.173572/ It's kind of a FAQ.

Read all the stickies, if you haven't already, and ask lots of questions. We love to help!
