Sticky skinny poop and anus prolapse

Four nights ago Emma had a poop issue. She was not in pain but I smelled some very fowl poop and looked around. She had a very skinny 1 inch long poop that was stuck and I could see pink tissue from her anus sticking out with it like a full inch outside. She could not get that last bit of poop off. I very, very careful held onto the end of the poop and only gave slight pull. (trust me I didn't do anything remotely forceful I know that's bad) It came out but was very sticky and pasty like modeling clay. Her prolapse went right back inside. She has been fine afterward. This morning I saw a similar size poop with 4 inches inside the litter box and 3 inches out on the tile. There was also a "skid" mark where she had wiped it off.

I see the vet tomorrow at 10:30am but I could really use some insight on this.

Emma's DB is completely under control by eating nothing but FF.
I give her 1/2 tsp of the Miralax generic spread throughout the day in her food. (for the last 2 years)
She also takes Cosequin and Zobaline each day. (for the last 2 years)
I did recently stop giving her Gabapentin at night because she doesn't seem to need it anymore.
Yes, she does strain when pooping, no matter the consistency.

Thanks for any help you can give, or advice on what to ask the vet.

Geez, I totally forgot to add that she just got over a UTI and was taking Orbax liquid antibiotic. The last dose was the 24 hours before I saw her anus prolapse problem.

Thank you Suzanne! Well no bad news to report but the vet couldn't do an extensive rectal exam because Emma was too upset. From now on I'll have to give her some Gabapentin before I take her. But you should have seen her when I got her home. All playful, rolling around and joyful like, "I won! I got the best of them!" ...Geez, Emma.

So this is the plan for her problem. I'm going to start putting a little pumpkin in her food to give her some fiber and keep using the Walgreens brand Miralax. But the vet gave me some Lactolose to keep on hand if I needed to use that. She said it would be a matter of tweaking to get the combo right for Emma. So I'll give it a try. Also, she didn't see anything external that implicated something seriously wrong. She also thinks like me, that the poo is way too sticky and that's the problem.

The vet at first wanted me to switch to wd canned food. I remembered trying that when she was first diabetic. That stuff didn't help at all and I don't want her going back to her diabetic self. You know, this feline diabetes thing you've just got to stay on top of it.

I'll update this thread as I go along in case it helps anyone else.

Oh that Emma! I have an Emma too. That is very funny! If her anus is prolapsed, I'm not sure a rectal exam won't do more harm than good (not a professional opinion, but just wondering about this!) I don't think she needs anything in her rectum at this point. I would definitely recommend the pumpkin. Do you have freeze dried pumpkin? It's much more convenient than adding canned to their food and is usually better tolerate (by my bunch). I have tried a couple of different brands. Also, you may consider plain psyllium husks for added fiber. It really sounds like you need to bulk up the stool. I hope everything will get better for you and Emma!

Bingo! That could be the connection if she's never had this problem before! Antibiotics are so rough on the GI tract. How about adding probiotics to her food? I have used Proviable DC with success in my cats for maintenance. For acute cases, I like BeneBac Plus gel. The cats seem to actually like it. I mix it in food. It's not for daily use. It's for using once or twice and then maybe a week later. The Proviable can be used daily. I had a cat with very bad diarrhea due to IBD that turned into Small Cell Lymphoma of the intestine. It helped him a lot. And the BeneBac I have been using in tiny bottle fed kittens who have the WORST diarrhea ever -- also when they get a little older. It works well.

Thanks for all the tips. So I've been giving Emma 1/8 tsp of pumpkin 2 or 3 times a day. Her stool has bulked up very well. Maybe too well. I've seen pieces in the litter box and also 4 ft away. But she isn't acting like she's in pain. My concern is that I saw a piece that looked a little white on the front end. And the back end looks 'broken off'.. it's not tapered. So I'm wondering if she's holding back going to the litter box because she has back arthritis and it does bother her to bare down. She's had this problem for awhile.
Is it okay to give her the pumpkin and the Walgreens Miralax? Or does that combo bulk up her stool too much? I've been giving her the Miralax since she switched to FanFeast 2 years ago so her poop was soft enough for her to push it.
Thanks for any help you can give.

I have used Diggin Your Dog Firm Up Pumpkin Super Supplement (anti-diarrhea anti-constipation). And I have also used Raw Paws Pet Organic Pure Pumpkin m that I purchased from Amazon.
