Poor Rorschach!

I'm real worried about civilian Rorschach!

Rorschach2.jpg

I am desperate here to help out poor little Rorschach, who has what looks to me like a squamous cell tumour deep in his ear, and is getting bleeding and oozing. It could be something else, of course, but I can't think what. He's already had an infection in that ear, and that got better but the problems are getting worse.

This month is a "spend no money month" for me due to some serious business crises (which I'm now recovering from, but the cashflow crunch isn't over yet). I can't even take him to the vet to look him over and get an estimate on the damage! Seriously I'm paying my rent this month with credit card, it's that bad.

I was going to let it go for a month while my finances recovered, and my friend suggested I ask the nice cat ladies I know in the meantime to help with the initial vet visit so at least I'll know what I'm facing, and how long it can wait for my cashflow to pick up.

My guesses based on this vet's prices:

£35 for a quick visit for her to look at him
£70 for whatever test they have to send to the lab
£250 if he needs a minor operation.

Multiply those by 1.6 to get US dollars.

Anyway, I'm not able to even spring for the £35 right now. Probably next month will be easier. If anyone wants to donate to help little Rorschach get his vet visit, I may be able to negotiate a payment plan with the vet on the bigger upcoming costs. Many thanks and love to hear your thoughts.

So here's me begging: please donate here if you like: http://steverapaport.com/jock/

P.S. Jock is doing great! He's recovered from his scary eye ulcer and can see just fine again. Blood sugar remains under control. Yay Jock!

Re: Poor Rorschach!

Awww, poor Rorschach! Not much, but I donated what I can for now too Steve. I was very glad to do so. You have done so much for FDMB over the years. I hope it isn't serious for your boy. Please keep us posted.

ETA.. the first two links in your signature do not work, at least for me. The second one says it is a "bully page" or something like that. Only the Wiki one works.

Re: Poor Rorschach!

Steve has been very busy lately with life but many of you know how much he & Jock have contributed to FDMB for many years. He took care of all the web stuff I couldn't understand for several years and did a lot of coaching for me. He was totally uncompensated for this.

Steve asked me if he could post this appeal and I told him absolutely.

Even if you can spare a couple of dollars, please consider helping out Rorshach and Steve.

Hugs,
Rebecca

Re: Poor Rorschach!

Thank you so much, Rebecca and all of you!

I will keep you posted on Rorschach!

I fixed up the links, Pamela, thanks!

Re: Poor Rorschach!

Steve, please don't feel you are begging. You and Jock have done tremendous services for many other diabetic kitties, not only on FDMB but on the Pet Diabetes Wiki also. Your info on Levemir in the Wiki is why we switched 3 1/2 years ago! And Gandalf is doing well for 18 years old and diabetic for over 6 years. Donating to help Rorschach is but a small thank you!

Re: Poor Rorschach!

Just sent you a little bit, Steve - oh, how I hope it's not squamous cell anything. Keep us posted, and I hope things go better for you really soon.

Re: Poor Rorschach!

Hi Steve,

I also will be donating. Rorschach is so sweet.

Two things.

First, If anyone wants to donate through Diabetic Cats in Need to get a tax deduction (yes, this is within DCIN's mission, helping diabetic cats and their people), I will forward the funds to Steve immediately. Instructions:

Diabetic Cats in Need accepts PayPal donations at ennis93 @att.net (remove space). Use the "Personal" tab and the radio button for "gift" to avoid fees on cash and checking donations. If you use a credit card, you can choose to pay the fee to maximize your donation to the fund.

Please put Rorschach's name in the PayPal note section.

Second, could you set up a ticker to show us where you are toward your goal of £355/$568. You can easily make up a ticker at the Ticker Factory.

Re: Poor Rorschach!

Dearest Steve you've always been here for everyone. I WISH I had a dollar to send. I can send prayers. I'm so sorry I cant help more. :(

Re: Poor Rorschach!

Just sent a little money via DCIN. Wish it was more, but have had huge expenses lately.
Having dealt with a similar ear tumor in my civvie Butthead, please PLEASE try to take care of it asap. I pray Rorschach doesn't meet the same fate...

Many thanks, Venita and Rebecca and all those who are donating to help him out!

Here's the update:

He went to see the vet this afternoon (thanks) and he does indeed have either polyp or cancer inside various bits of his ear. He's going in for surgery Monday.

I'm going to discourage them from doing this in two steps (surgery to take a biopsy, then surgery to remove it), since whether the polyp is benign or malignant, he obviously needs it removed -- it hurts, it's bleeding, sometimes oozing, and it's getting worse. I'll be asking them to do it all in one operation and worry about analysis later.

I haven't been able to discuss it really with anyone because my regular vet, Mo, is off today and I spoke to one I've never seen before, who was filling in for her. And though Mo is the one who will discuss the outcomes and strategies with me, when she comes in, Mo herself doesn't do surgery. So today I was operating at two removes from reality.

But thanks to your donations I can take him in Monday in reasonable confidence that I can give the go-ahead to do whatever needs to be done for him! Very grateful!

Here's Rorschach enjoying his new sweater and a telephone cable:

Steve, does this mean you have raised all you need, or should we keep the fundraiser going? (Just asking, because I also am running it on DCIN's facebook page.)

Even though we've never posted to each other, I have read through many things you've posted; your video helped us learn how to do ear pokeys. Sending a little something for your boy with our sincere thanks for all you've done/do and also with healing vines for Rorschach.

I think we're good now! THANK YOU

Just exceeded the goal of £350 today, many thanks to all! (The prices I gave were guesses, so it might be more or less)

I am incredibly grateful to all of you! I hope to let you know how it goes Monday when he's in surgery! As I said, I'm going to ask the vets to remove all the stuff they can in one surgery, regardless of how dangerous or cancerous it might be. (It's obviously blocking his ear and causing lots of discomfort and occasionally causing infection!)

Thank you Karen and Smokey, and thanks to all of you!

I had no idea people would be so kind and generous. I hope to pay it forward.

Moved.

I think that is wise. Whatever it is, it has to go so why prolong it. Will be sending many healing purrs over the Atlantic.

Sent some money for Rorschach via DCIN. I know all about yucky cancer, as my kitty, Chicken, is fighting vaccine associated sarcoma. You can read all about her fight in her blog, which is linked in my signature.

I am constantly moved by the generosity of this community and the way it rallies around its own. And, Steve, we have yet to ding the surface of all we owe you for what you have given to us. I also am one who leaned heavily on your advice when Maxwell was first diagnosed.

Sent in a donation for Rorschach to DCIN. I did it too quickly I guess, and did not reference that this donation is for him.

Many prayers for a speedy complete recovery.
