Hello I have questions of Stella and Chew's foods, is it wise to try to shift Magellan to a raw/ Stella diet this late in his life?? Asked the vet at diagnosis and he was very much against changing him to raw, but then he was against me testing too. So I am confused as to what to do I know he is fine on canned wet but is raw better than canned or what I am so very confused. o_O:rolleyes:
 
If you decide to change foods, do so gradually - about 20-25% different food each day or two - to avoid food refusal, vomiting, or diarrhea.
 
I couldn't tell you; I don't feed raw, other than the occasional Stella and Chewey's freeze dried.
 
I didn't used to believe all the claims about raw food....then I tried it and the difference was amazing. China's coat has never been softer or fuller and she's in great shape.

It also does amazing things in the litter box

That being said, my opinion is feed the best quality food you can afford.....even the cheapest wet food is better than the most expensive dry

Raw is the closest you're going to get to a natural diet unless you want to go out and catch mice and birds for your kitty....LOL
 
Ok thanks both BJM and Chris, I asked because I am seriously considering adding Stella and Chewey's to there diet. I don't plan on feeding that only but in adjunct to the canned and I prefer to get information from people who have used the product than relying on the manufactures opinions.
 
I just started transitioning Marshmallow to S&C. She seems to like it but since she's not fully transitioned, I can't say how much it's helping her. I have read that raw food in general is amazing for cats. I will say that S&C is very expensive. When all of her stomach issues are totally under control (she's dealing with IBD right now) I'm going to do some research on other low-carb raw foods and see if I can find something a little cheaper.
 
@Chris & China, I had an ex-bf who ordered frozen dead baby chicks for his cats. His cats were raised eating that way and they'd eat the whole thing: beak, feathers, feet. So there are actually companies who will essentially ship frozen raw animals to your door. I couldn't go there myself, but it makes sense. Our little housecats haven't evolved that much from their wild counterparts (at least their digestive systems haven't evolved much!).
 
That is my only concern at least while Magellan is living with me, my goal is to return Magellan to my BF once his housing situation is stable. Yes Jim has been learning to take care of Magellan and he is also a diabetic and on lantus too.
 
As well as Magellan is doing, he could very well be OTJ by then! (anti-jinx)

But it will be important that he stay on low carb the rest of his life
 
Mitz gets Stella & Chewy's or Primal raw mixed about 50/50 with her canned food. She won't always eat the raw on its own but likes it fine mixed with her Wellness. Mitz is 20 and I only started adding the raw a couple years ago. Aside from the diabetes and arthritis, she is in great shape for her age. Our new vet is impressed with her body condition. I can't say that the raw food is the reason but it's certainly seems to be helping.
