Staying High, Shot Problems

Catee is staying in the upper 200s a majority of the time. He is only eating 2 ounces of food a day. Vet told me at his weight it would be okay. I've been worried about him staying so high, vet just tells me to go up .25 unit. I've been giving him 2.2 units for awhile and just unsure on going up more.

If some of you have a moment look at his spread sheet please. I would appreciate any advice.

Plus, it is getting hard giving him shots in his neck. I give it to him in the scruff of the neck. Since I have been doing the 2.2 units it seems like it is hard in there. I put the needle in and the plunger will just not push in. I have to stick him a few times before it goes in. What could it be?? Scar tissue?

It might help if you got some midcycle numbers today, but I know in the past, there is not a low enough low to bounce from or to influence the pre shot downward. I continue to say, that as low as he is on high carb dry, you will have to continue to raise the dose. There may be a place that he drops - I think, once in a blue moon - we see a cat who goes OTJ on dry - but not one I can recall. As I have said before, I think you have to try to maintain him in the best numbers you can and that will probably take more insulin. Yes, I would go up .25 units, hold it for a couple cycles and if you don't see the results you want, you could increase again.

If he were mine, I would never give up on trying to get him on lower carb dry at the least and wet low carb at the most. I think it is your only path to remission.

Some cats do develop a hardened place if shot in the same place. There is a picture showing all the possible sites. I'll find it and post it.

Thank you Sue. I will keep trying the low carb food. I suppose leave it out with the Purina DM. He did go into remission when first diagnosed with Young Again cat food but he stopped eating it and here we are. I just hate to keep going up on him... for him to go from micro dosages to now 2 units.

Let me ask you, him staying around the 200s could this cause kidney/urinary tract problems?

Just can't understand the sudden change in September. He had went up in July but went back down in August. I've been sick and there have been family problems as well which have affected me. I know this may sound dumb but I wonder if it might be affecting him in some way? He is sitting in my lap more and sticks to me like glue when I am at home. I just wonder.

His side would probably be a good place to try and give him the shot. I tell ya the scruff of his neck is getting hard. I rotate from one side to another but on the scruff but since the increase in dosage I can physically fell like a hard place there.

I would do another search for dry food. (there is a search line on top on the right hand side) There have been several threads and discussions lately on it - I don't think there are any new flavors/brands but there might have been.

Have you tried Stella and Chewy's? It is a dehydrated raw that seems like dry in texture. Pricey but if he would eat it.....

I got him the Young Again Mature Formula hoping he would like it. Nope.
I haven't heard of Stella and Chewy's.... I will look it up. Price isn't a concern right now. I mean I pay $40 for his Purina every 3 weeks so use to it :)
