Started Prozinc August 1 after 6 years with Lantus

The past few days have been a bit crazy.

Bella was feeling pretty bad the last few days and wasn’t eating. Last night was pretty tough. This morning Bella collapsed in her litter box which freaked me out.

I immediately took her to the vet and we ran blood work that we were planning to do tomorrow. Bella’s potassium had dropped from 3.9 to 3.2.
My Vet was concerned that Bella was also over hydrated but with such low potassium, we decided to do an IV drip with potassium.

I pretty much insisted because I just do Bella was so weak.

Additionally, Bella‘s RBC and hematocrit had dropped. Her liver enzymes also jumped by 50 points. For now we’re leaving the liver on the back back burner.

Bella is going back to the vet tomorrow so we can recheck her potassium to see if there’s been any movement. I also gave renal K supplement tonight

Please say some prayers for my girl. She had so much going on and I don’t know why she suddenly stopped eating. The only thing I can think of is, I was reducing her Buprenex, and perhaps it was too much too fast and she was in pain. I feel so guilty. She looked so much better when she was off of bupernex which is why I was trying to cut it back.

She’s eating very little, which is huge concern.

We had been consulting with the internal medicine specialist about potential drugs. She is the one who suggested the Chlorambucil.

Considering Bella‘s situation, she suggested we start her on prednisone. We did that today. Not ideal I understand, but we’re running out of options.

Tomorrow is critical. I don’t know what we’re gonna do if we see that her potassium is continuing to drop.

Neither my Vet or I understand why it is dropped to begin with.

My Vet thought it was due to her dropping an appetite, but that just happened in the last two days.

This pancreatitis stuff is wicked.

I need prayers for my girl. Thanks.

Bella potassium was up a little but since we kept the catheter in, we ran more today. Unfortunately, her hematocrit was down more so we did a dose of Aranesp.

We started pred yesterday and her blood glucose has gone way up. We will adjust her dose until we find the right balance until we get her off pred. She is on 3/4 of a 5 mg tablet.

I noticed it took hours for Prozinc to start working. She still not getting nice curves but at least it lasts 6-7 hours unlike Lantus that would only give 5 hours of coverage.

Right now, I just have to get her to eat.

Diane. I am really sorry to hear this update about Bella. You must be worried and exhausted. What was her HCT today? I do hope that the Pred will help her. How is her blood pressure? I will say some prayers for Bella.
