Started peeing outside of box and wont stop?

Hey, so my boy smokey started peeing outside of his box one day and wont quit? Same cat litter, same environment, food etc. I dont know why and what I can do to stop him. I scold him about everytime he does it, and he will literally wait til I leave the room so he can go piss on the carpet somewhere outside his box. He still pees in his box about half the time. I keep his box really clean.. Not sure what's going on? Any ideas? Thanks in advance....

Are you home testing his blood sugar? Getting a cat better regulated can help with litter box habits. You might also want to take him to the vet to make sure there is no medical reason like a urinary tract infection.

Scolding doesn’t work in cats. I also suggest a vet visit.

Scolding will just make him more stressed. He needs to have an urinalysis.
