St. Louis, MO: Trading administering duties during vacation and prefilling syringes

We draw insulin out of a Solostar Pen into a syringe to administer 1 1/2 units twice a day to our cat Hef. We are going on vacation for a week in July and wanted to know if there is a way to trade with someone administering duties. You give our cat his injections when we are on vacation and then we give your cat his injections while you are on vacation. We live in a suburb of St. Louis, MO. Zipcode 63132.
Also wanted to know if we have to hire someone would it be safe for us to pre-fill 14 syringes ahead of time.

You might want to mention St. Louis in your subject line. I'd post both here and on the Health board since there's a good deal of traffic there.

You shouldn't pre-fill syringes. I'd encourage you to see if there's a vet tech at your vet's office that does pet sitting on the side.

Thank you for the reply. Do you know why I shouldn't pre-fill the syringes? When I go to edit my post, it only let's me edit the body, I can't see how to edit the subject line.

You have to go to the first post in the thread to change the subject line.

There is information about pre-filling syringes in the Insulin Care sticky. The link to the article is a bit below the picture of the Lantus vial (repackaged insulin).

ABOUT STORING LANTUS: When he was first diagnosed, I spent $300 on a 10cc vial of Lantus for M'row. I lived in fear of dropping and breaking it. So I went online to lab supply houses and bought a few sterile empty glass vials to store some back-up Lantus in. They have the same style tops as Lantus. Still haven't dropped the original vial, but I feel better!
