SS done, Poo progression

Just had Missy to vet for urine and lab checks. Was looking around as know I saw steps for doing SS template, although not much there now but to put initial sugars, but can't find instructional.

Next question is about mdam Missy's poop posture. She was on constipated side since I realized Laxatone= sugar, and stopped it couple of weeks ago, then struggled with getting her to poop. After Miralax and a few Vaseline doses saturdaynight she did poop puddles  what a wake up for us.

She now just went a little more, a little more formed then Saturday, but still got all over her, then on carpet again, tried cleaning her as spot clean but ended up sticking her butt in the sink, lol haha_smiley yes I have always bathed my cats myself. But no she's not very happy with me right now.

As she now tends to sit on litter (or carpet) to pee, and to poop, does anyone have suggestions or just something to deal with? She can't seem to hold self up in squat. Off to try to towel dry her a bit if she's calmed down and will let me. So far does poops in box.

Re: Template for SS? And ideas re poop posture?

This is the main SS instruction sticky: http://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=18207 The first part may or may not work. Some people have had difficulty getting a copy of the FDMB SS template from the Google Template Gallery. If that's the case with you, follow the instructions under OPTION #2 (directions by Sam & S'Mores). Be sure to follow the instructions step by step. Some people miss the last few steps and have difficulty posting the right SS link or they do have the right link but it doesn't show up right in their signature.

Have you tried Cat Attract litter? You can find it at PetSmart and some other pet stores. Dr. Lisa's web site has other tips on litter box issues: http://catinfo.org/?link=litterbox

Re: Template for SS? And ideas re poop posture?

Is the poop posture new? Does she have neuropathy? Or arthritis?

Miralax works best given every day. Maybe give less every day with canned with a bit of water mixed in. Miralax is an osmotic and will pull water from the body into the colon. It wont soften hard stool already formed, but will help with what is forming.

Lisa all this is new, been thinking for a while it was arthritis ans started Cosamine for kitties as gait stiff like then things were found re sugar, Vet said may be combo arthritis and neuropath but havent done X-rays. She's actually on dog glucosamine chondretin MSM as it used to be like that for cats and small dogs or for larger dogs. Following dosage for under 15 lbs and she was better until sugar issue.

Will try cutting *Miralax* back to just daily. Yesterday's labs were better, 237, fructosamine ok per vet but headed in now, her white counts up so brinigng her in for *abx shot maybe uti as past but diarrhea as sat on litter so got wrong place. Still no insulin.

Re: Template for SS? And ideas re poop posture?

And today finally a soft but formed poop, all in box go Missy girl! party_cat party_cat
She's never avoided box before so don't think that's an issue. Think, and use term loosely  that it's just balancing on linoleum kitchen floor then getting to carpet is issue, need to look at the small bis sell carpet cleaner.
Still trying to sort meaning of negative fructosamine with what it means precautionwise but think that's party too?

Re: Template for SS? And ideas re poop posture?

I had issues with Sasha peeing out of the box. I realized he couldn't avoid peeing on his feet since he was basically flat footed from neuropathy. He was using my bathmat pretty regularly. I got an extra empty plastic cat box and put a puppy pee pad in it. Problem solved. This was mostly a pee issue. I think he was pooping outside in the grass. I considered getting some fake turf to go over the pad, maybe one of three part "sifting" boxes... Something to allow pee to drop through to the pad and keep feeties dry.

His legs recovered once I got his glucose under control, diet made more of a difference than insulin ever did. He's back in the box now, so have faith... this may be a temporary issue.

Hope so jillanes, we are actually happy if she does peeovers outside boc, have the approach layered anyway ;-) she uses the box but for those times after eating meaning hits the white carpet? Off to bed, will check here tomorrow. I thought about puppy pads too but in kitchen doorway?

Re: Spreadsheet -/ tummy working

Wow was rough week as Missy had not pooped again several days despite Miralax, think saw someone here mention some cats did better with Metamucil which some Facebook friends suggested. Her last poop had been past monday night a little still loose after Saturday night-Sunday am major watery stool. After Vaseline.

Time was going and no further results and really didn't want second weekend being iffy. Had Miralax 1/4 tsp again yesterday am, I got Metamucil capsules as only powder was all orange flavored didn't look but suspected sweetened too. Broke capsule open and mixed 2/3 of the powder as said 5 pills a day for adult humans

Last night had normal formed small poo, some more during night and another formed just before gave second capsule. Had spoken to our vet yesterday afternoon, he said she might need three times a day (this was before results) and we should call tomorrow if still not going as she might need something stronger, but I left voice mail saying she had normal BM so all systems go  I am now no longer in panic.
