This week was civie Leroy's turn to go the vet hospital. He originally needed his teeth checked but Dr. B ended up checking out a few other things  Teeth are fine, just some mild gingivitis. Dr. B prescribed clindamycin for it. Dr. B also checked out Leroy's eyes because he occasioanally gets goop in them ("just smutz", Dr. B said) and a bumpy thing on Leroy's leg (apparently a scab from playing too roughly with Emma). He also prescribed Revolution for both Leroy and Emma to take care of heartworm and fleas and ticks. Neither go outside but there are dogs in the building and I don't want to track anything around.

Leroy was such a good boy for Dr. B and his vet tech and the visiting vet student. He let them hold him and poke and prod him. He thoroughly enjoyed the attention. Dr. B laughingly commented that Leroy was a"huge improvement over your last cat". Yes, Squishy was very fractious with Dr. B, though for some reason he was a wet mop for both the dental vets and he saw them only twice

Emma visited Squishy the other day. She jumped onto the tall dresser and poked around  She did knock off Squishy's collar and bb toy from their special spot but nothing fell onto the floor.

Emma's new video: http://www.catster.com/video/1175962/here_fishie_fishie_fishie

Emma and Leroy are still chasing each other around bcatrun_gif I'm paranoid about someone complaining about the cats' noise and every other normal activity noise I generate nailbite_smile Someone(s) has already complained about the noise when I do laundry  No idea why the complaints are suddenly rolling in now when I've been here for 8 months :? And no, no one new has moved in recently. I haven't yet gotten a rug to muffle the sound of the cats' running and thumping. I just haven't found a good quality one that I like and won't cost a fortune and is easy to clean pet messes from.

Rebecca recently asked me if she could use the pics of how to use insulin syringes with SoloStar pens and OptiClick cartridges  She's working on some new FD health page. I told her she could and even added few new ones:

The "original": https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_...jednI/How to use an insulin pen for cats.jpg
The "original" tweaked a little: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/_...HZ4c/How to use an insulin pen for cats2.jpg
How to use insulin syringe with OptiClick cartridge: https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_SbfdsHhH-kc/TYFgddDFpTI/AAAAAAAACGo/-7ezn2U7Ek8/OptiClik.jpg
Using isulin syringes with Levemir FlexPens: https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_...AAAAACGg/go-uAKPirVU/s576/Levemir FlexPen.jpg
Another one of how to use insulin syringe with Levemir FlexPen: https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_.../AAAAAAAACGk/yxNSd0pavM0/Levemir FlexPen2.jpg

Do newbies find these useful? Or are pictures of an acutal pen or cartridge with an insulin syringe better?

yes, your pics are helpful! i just switched to the solostar pen this week and had seen the pics enough times it was an easy transition.

fwiw, the first link is probably set only to certain users - it goes to a message that you can't see the pic.

btw, i enjoyed your squishy story about his break-in to the timed feeder. cats! i had one that would've never been stopped by a feeder. at one point Felix weighed 24 pounds. we loved him!

Funny! I took Tilly to the vet a couple of months ago, because she has little bumps on the back of her legs. The vet did an in house scrape test, nothing odd showed up. She wanted to give her a steroid shot and some Clavamox. I didn't do the shot, because there didn't seem to be a reason, Tilly wasn't picking at them and they weren't nasty looking. I just happened to run my hand on the back of her legs and felt them. Anyway, I just decided to keep an eye on them. Seems like they are going away, her back legs feel smother now. She does play rough with Jeter, but that just doesn't seem like that would have caused the bumps. I told my vet it seemed like a reaction to something, like when I when I've worn cheap necklesses. I used to get those little bumbs on the back of my neck, they didn't really itch and went away once I stopped wearing the neckless. She didn't make much of my comment, other than to say it didn't seem like a reaction to the cat litter because the bumps were just on her hind legs. Ok...I guess it will be an unsolved mystery. Hopefully, there won't be any further problems.

It's cool that you have to little ones now. I'm so glad, I adopted to kittens. They love to play and chase each other around the house! We don't have anyone living under us, except for those dam little back ants....I hate those bastards! I'd make tons of noise to get them to move out! Sounds like you have a whiner in your complex! You would think that this person would understand that the downside of living in a multi-unit complex is sometimes having to deal with a bit of noise.

Emma just looks like a dainty princess in that video - precious!!!!! I wonder what she'd think of Video Catnip? Do you have this already?

Glad Leroy got a great vet checkup

I fixed the link to the fist pic. Somehow only part of the link got pasted in.

Glad the pics are helpful :-D

You might want to remove the Opticlick pictures. The cartridges have been discontinued.

Good to know. I'll remove the pics and let Rebecca know so that she won't put them the FD health page.

I would come home from work and find that feeder in some random place in the house  Sometimes it would be upside down and because of that, the lids wouldn't open and Squishy would be starving. Not sure why he could never figure out how to flip the feeder back over so he could pry the lids off  I upgraded to the 5 compartment one and never had another problem. There are reviews on Amazon about cats who can push the tray with their paw to manually rotate it to get to the food

I considered a first floor unit that got tons of afternoon sun from the west facing windows but the parking lot and a walkway was right outside the windows :? I was concerned about safety and privacy.

I'm doing laundry tomorrow nailbite_smile I hope no one complains again to the property manager. You would think if someone was bothered by noise they'd knock on your door and tell you and if things don't improve, then go to the property manager :? Guess people here don't want to interact with other residents.

I guess I could do laundry mid-afternoon on a weekday instead of a weekend morning :-| Most people here don't usually get back from work until 6 or so. If I start as soon as I get home from work (3:30 or so), I can probably get the laundry done by the time people get back.

No, I don't have Video Catnip. I don't have a tv so I just let Emma watch live web cams

Nice Caturday report on your "kids". I hope someone is not going to make a fuss about the noise they make. When I was looking for a rug for the tile flood, I got a Sisal rug, bad move, they loved to scratch on it even though they have multiple posts and condos. Have a good weekend, what's left of it.

First load of laundry is in the washer nailbite_smile The washer does make a thumping noise as it senes the load to determine how much water to use. I Googled it and found that it's likely a water hammer problem as water enters the washing machine valve and it's usually a loose water pipe somewhere behind the wall.

I was thinking of a rug from LL Bean. One of the recent catalogs has a wafle weave rug that stands up well to pets http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/52361?feat=506691-GN2 Not sure what size I need, though :?: Probably either the 5 x 8 or the 8 x 10 to cover the area by the sofa and coffee table. Maybe I need a runner for the hallway to the bedroom, too?

I like that carpet. I would get the larger one if it fits in your space, and the runner, too. Make sure to get the non stick underpad.

The problems you are having are a big worry for me if I make the move to a condo. Where my mother lived, people were always complaining about each other.

I love the Emma video.

LL Bean has free shipping on everything now, no minimum purchase required :-D The 8 x 10 will probably fit best. I was thinking of putting it close to the sofa with the coffee table on top. Or would placing the rug in the center of the living area be better? :?: Pic of the space: https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_...AAh7oNJM/s720/Dining_living area 10-21-10.jpg The kitty playground has been reconfigured since that picture was taken and its flat against that wall now instead of being L-shaped. And I. going to move it to the opposite wall because its so lightweight that whenever Leroy or Emma jump onto it, it smacks against the wall. And guess what's on the other side of that wall? nailbite_smile nailbite_smile

I'll have to find out the height of the runner and make sure it won't interfer with the opening and closing of the laundry closet door or the hallway closet door.

Good idea about the pad. I can so see Leroy and Emma skidding across the rug as they run across and slamming into a wall or something

Living in a multi-unit building does have its problems, like people complaining about noise and other things. The recent noise complaint aside, I like living here

Thanks

Miss Emma is lounging in a puddle of sun right now while Leroy is running around trilling and chriping and spinning in circles trying to catch his tail  Sometimes I swear he's a dog in disguise.

I would have to see photos of both arrangements, but I would lean towards putting the rug under the sofa, loveseat, and coffee table to define the living room area.

You can have the bottom of your doors shaved a bit to accommodate the rug.

It'll just be the same only with a big empty wall space in front of the sofa. Kitty playground will go against the same wall as the sofa. That way when it smacks into the wall when both cats jump and wrestle on it, it'll only bother me in the bedroom  Or... I could move the sofa to the same wall as the dining table and move the kitty playground to where the sofa currently is.

Laundry was done by 11:30am today. If anyone was still bothered by the noise, I don't know about it because no one knocked on my door :? Fingers crossed for no email tomorrow from the property manager about a complaint nailbite_smile

OMG your place is clean!!!!

Thanks  I try to keep all the fur and tracked litter to a minimum. I need to get a better vacuum cleaner, though. The one I have can't suck things up along the edges of walls or corners and there is no hose or attachement tools to get into tight spots.
