I cant seem to win with Sprocket. If i give a dose that puts him in blues then he wont eat the same, then he drops too much cause that dose works with that amount of food. If I go down on dose then he eat better but wont get in blues much. He has acted like he had a furball so i keep giving meds to help acid tummy & antinausea. No furball yet. I am trying not to steer with over 6 carb but he wont cooperate. Also he is getting crankier when i go to test more.
He keeps running from me when i need to test or sometimes feed him.

I have slept less and I am so tired. Trying not to get sick. Idk what to do
Any suggestions

When you say he eats less...is that less than his normal calorie requirements would be or just less then before?

Some cats as they get into lower numbers eat less which is ok if they are getting their calorie requirement.

If we say eating less is ok, and his numbers drop to the point of earning a reduction ...you would drop your dose. I know you have been around and do have a history of DKA. So eating and insulin is an important part of your decision making. I don't have experience with that component. How is Sprocket otherwise?

Do we need to tag someone with experience in this area for you?

He eats less than his normal. He eats about 10-12oz a day, mostly 1-2oz per meal. With this amount his dose of 2.75u will put him in 100s but if he eats less then he goes below.
If I take the reduction then he goes back up in high 200s or 300s.

So this time I am gonna try to not reduce till 3rd time to keep him in the 100s more but he needs to eat same amount.

Its hard to tell if its attitude, nausea, upset belly, or normal.
I cried n went to lay down. Then he ate. I tested again. 131.
Now he ate again. Nibbles little at time. But sometimes he wont so it stresses me. If he eats a meal then i can sleep knowing he is safe but when he nibbles then i cant sleep cause i dont know if he is safe.
I am trying not to get sick cause feel like crap.
??I wonder if i give a little higher carb to start in amps meal maybe it will hold him as he drops so its slower but sometimes he will go up instead with 7 or higher carbs.
Trying to read this balance is frustrating.
I been doing this dance almost 10 months like this so i know what to do if hypo low but trying to not get there so he will surf more.

I understand your frustration. Been doing this over a year now myself and the balance between Jones' meds, his insulin, his IBD makes me want to just cry some days. And I do. I was so mad the other day that he wouldn't eat that I locked my self in my room before I hurt somebody. Full scottish temper just a raging! 20 mins later Jones was scratching at the door to come in. I let him in, we cuddled then he went to eat. I wonder sometime if our upset is more to do with things then anything.

I spent the day just watching to see why he isn't eating his full amount. He is hungry as he is cruising around look into his sister dishes, on the counter, head in my food....so I think with Jones he is bored. Not so easy changing food however.

Sprocket may be need free fed. Jones is. He will not sit down and eat a 1/4 can of food, never mind a half a can that he would need twice a day.

You can try to feed the numbers. I have done that as Jones can be a big diver. Just a suggestion - add a higher carb a little at a time - like a tsp then test that +2/+3 area to see impact. Sometimes a 1% of extra carb can mean a lot.

I did feed the curve with Max and it helped him to level out. All you can do is experiment to see if it helps. What I did was to get a +2-3 and fed slightly higher carbs if he was dropping too much. Is he losing weight? Is the appy decrease just today or has it been longer?

How much does he weigh? Is he at a good weight or underweight? That's a lot of food. Bubba weighs 17 lbs and I give him 6 oz of raw food a day which is 300 calories to maintain that weight. While they have ketones they are hungrier and lose weight so, then it is necessary to feed more food. Maybe it's time to reconsider the amount and maybe then he won't be needing as much insulin. Can you look to see what the calorie count on the can of food you are feeding is then we can figure out how much for his weight.
