Spreadsheet

I am having a really hard time downloading the spreadsheet to monitor the glucose levels. Can anyone help me with this? I tried two different links and neither have worked.

What browser are you using? I would try another one. What specific link are you using? What specifically happens when you click on it?

Darn. I don't know why the link works for some people and not for others. The other idea I have is to sign on to Google, search for Google docs and then search for FDMB spreadsheet. It should come up. See if that works.

Link to the US/World template: https://docs.google.com/previewtemplate?id=0AsYFQpNDQqYJdDMxUW5EZ3pOOUZZdHJKZW4xSjB5aXc&mode=public

Link to the US SS template: https://docs.google.com/previewtemplate?id=0Atq6T7zqQwhtdHBudTVJTnh0VmZOZk9keV9kbUtzU3c&mode=public

To use the template, click on the "Use this template" button. If you're not already signed in to Google or have a Google account, you will be prompted to at the next screen.

It does take a bit for the page to fully load. Try a different web browser if you can. Sometimes it works with FireFox vs Internet Explorer.

Well, with the second link I am at least able to see the chart when I use Firefox; however, when I click Use this Template, nothing happens, the screen is all white, and at the bottom in the left-hand corner, it says "Done." It seems to quit on me when I get to that point. How long does it normally take? Maybe I'll let it go overnight in hopes it will be up by morning :smile:

Just tried. I can sometimes get the Google sign in page after clicking on the "Use this template" button. Other times just a blank page.

Try this:

Log into Google.com https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin?hl=en&continue=http://www.google.com/If you don't have an account, create one.

When you are logged in, open the SS template link in a new browser tab. Click on "Use this template". You should then be able to use the template.

Go to the toolbar in the SS, choose File and then Rename. Change the default name to something like "My Cat's numbers on X insulin". Then go back to File and choose Save. A copy of the SS will now be saved in your Google Documents list.

Awesome! I finally got it to work! Thanks guys.

Now, my next question is, are there instructions anywhere on how to use this spreadsheet?

Also, when I close it out and then want to get back to it, how do I do that? Sorry, I am so not familiar with Google Docs. Also, how do people attach their spreadsheets on the forum?

Glad it came up. To attach it to your signature, choose the Share option on the RH side of the page. Choose Publish. When the URL comes up in the grey box (it's the one with pub in the middle) highlight and copy that. Go back to FDMB, choose User Control Panel, Profile and edit signature. Paste the URL into your signature along with the kind of insulin you use and what you are feeding. (So we won't continue to ask....) Choose submit. It should come up in your signature.

The lines across are amps (morning number before shot), units given. +1 +2 are the hours since the shot. So if you get a test at 6 hours after the shot, it goes in the +6 box. pmps = evening number before shot. Remarks might include kind of food fed, any usual behaviors etc.

You copy the URL of the spreadsheet - in the box above the title. It has a cc in the middle, not pub. Put it in your bookmarks. Only you can see and change that spreadsheet. We can see the one in your signature.

Problems? Send me a pm.

Hi Sue!

I PM'd you, but I don't think they went through. Let me know if you didn't get it. The spreadsheet link in my signature does not seem to work properly and I can't figure it out.

AMPS is the morning pre-insulin blood glucose number.

PMPS is the evning pre-insulin blood glucose number.

U is units of nsulin given.

The + numbers indicate the blood glucose level at X number of hours after the insulin injection. Example: A 233 in the +4 column means that 4 hours after the insulin was given the blood glucose level was at 233.

Comments is, well, for commens such as your cat threw up, went to the vet, a new bottle of insulin was started, etc.

Take a look at other members' SS to get an idea of how people use it.

When you are in the editable SS page, at the very top right corner is your email address in a box with a little down pointing arrow. Click on the arrow and a box will appear with a Sign Out option. Click on that to log off from Google. Before you sign out, make sure to save your SS.

To log back onto Google, you can just sign in from the main Google.com page At the top right is a Sign In link. Once logged in, you are treturned to the main Google.com page. Click on the More option, then select Documents. You will then be taken to yoru list of Google Documents and from there just click on the name of your SS to make edits.

Or, bookmark the Published/shareable link to your SS. At the very bottom of the SS is an "Edit if you have permission" link. Click on that, sign in at the prompt, and you will be taken right to the editable SS.

The SS link in your signature is broken for some reason. Recopy the link from the Share box. Go to your User Control Panel here on FDMB and select the Edit Signature option. Delete the broken link. Paste in the correct link. Put the URL codes around the link so it will show up correctly.
Example:
Code:
[url]http://www.felinediabetes.com[/url]

I got it! Thanks. I was missing the URL coding.

Could someone tell me exactly what the color coding means on the glucose numbers of the spreadsheet? I can venture a guess myself but wanted to know if there is an actual legend to the color coding. TIA!

The color code key is at the top of the SS. The SS template has this so if you saved a copy of it, you should have the code key unless you somehow deleted that row.

Black = BG over 500
Red = 400-499
Pink = 300-399
Yellow = 200-299
Blue = 100-199
Green = 40-99

It works :thumbup

To shrink your SS link down in your signature, you could do something like this:

Code:
[url=https://spreadsheets0.google.com/pub?hl=en&hl=en&key=0Av9FaqH9ya6BdEt1SUN4UmJyZkRPMk9mUW9ISVBUUmc&output=html]Bradley's SS[/url]

To get this:

Bradley's SS

No, I do see that. I was just wondering if there is a code telling us, Blue means good, pink means slightly high, black very high, etc.

Oh, well you ideally want to get your diabetic cat to stay in the normal range as much as possible, about 60 to 150 or so. So lots of greens and blues on a SS is good :smile:

Yellow, pink, and red aren't bad as long as your cat is getting insulin twice a day as consitently as possible and is eating a low carb diet. Lots of people started off with yellows, pinks, and reds on their SS's and slowly got bgs down into the blues and greens. Almost every newbie cat starts off with a yellow or pink SS. A few may be in the red or black.

Constant yellows, pinks, and reds may mean that your cat's insulin dose needs to be adjusted but a few random sporadic numbers in "bad" colored boxes aren't enough to warrant a dose change. You'd need to do a curve or two and base a dose change on that.

The person who created the SS template just randomly picked colors to associate with bg ranges. There's nothing "official" about the color coding.
