On one of the food list here, I think its under "the new list" or something like that. I saw this brand of cat food listed with the carb counts. But then I got sent a different list with all foods listed and I dont see that brand.

Am I just over looking it or has it been taken off the list?

I can see 1 1/2 pages on the second link. I do see 3 special kitty listed at the top. I do LOVE the way it is with the ones I can see :)

wow! looks like there is pretty much no carbs in the food I can see in the 1st link, am I reading that right? :nailbiting:

for now I am just doing low carbs, not all the other food stuff. He has only been on can food about 2 weeks, and DX in Oct.

@sherrib you are right - both the mixed grill and the turkey are very low carb based on the info Lucy gave me from the manufacturer. This is for the US branded Special Kitty only - the Canadian manufacturer would not provide me with data and there is wheat gluten in the ingredients so we can't use it up here.

If you get stuck and don't have your list, pretty much any food that does not have carbs in the ingredients is ok. If it has corn, wheat, potatoes, peas, rice, wheat gluten, or other veggies don't buy it. If it has "gravy" in the title, probably no good. Remember that "grain free" does not always mean "low carb". The exception on "peas" would be the Nature's Variety Instinct canned - the regular kind - it does have peas in it but they are whole and you can pick them out.

@Squalliesmom - hi and thanks for the shout-out!

...hi and thanks for the shout-out!
Credit where credit is due, and all that! :):)

I just created a thread about looking for the perfect, affordable cat food, hahahah! I may try the Special Kitty or the Performatrin; I'm so tired of looking at and comparing cats foods, I could scream! One of the manufacturers I called this week called me back last night and I couldn't even remember which cat food they made, I've looked at so many, lol!

Thanks for the credit, but as you know, the hard part is getting the data out of the #*(#&^# manufacturers. I fail to understand why it's such a mystery, and I have SO much respect for what Dr. Pierson did - I can't even imagine how much work went into making that original list. I just plugged in the numbers you got.

I hear you on being tired of looking at and comparing cat foods, Lucy! Sometimes I feel badly that I can't give my cats tons of variety, but I'm lucky that they seem to like almost everything I put in front of them (except the high quality ones like NV and Wellness, go figure!). I chose a few varieties of the PC we can get up here in Canada and I'm sticking with them!

I fail to understand why it's such a mystery

It's because they don't want you to know the kind of garbage food that they're peddling.

The numbers on some of these selections are awesome. I'll definitely have to pick some up and try.

@Brashworks - Can you share how you did the calculations? I'm curious to learn how to go from that tabular format to what is contained in the pdf.
