Thankfully, when I joined FMDB some folks suggested the dose was too high.
I started testing and it was.
It is still hard to test. The vet started at 2u 2x day. Then upped to 4u 2x day. But thanks to you folks we didn't really do it :-D

Sparks numbers lately have been in the 1s & 2s  not all greens but still an amazing improvement over the vet's 4s and 5s.

He had an obstruction, a surgery (under anasthesia), and additional care to feel better. It's time to update my signature from ~3 to ~1 (!) unit twice per day, and we're still needing the pumpkin, stool softener, newly prescribed Cisapride, and still the methylB12...

I don't want to detract from the good news: he's feeling better. The excessive shaking and vibration upon walking is improving, the neuropathy still keeps him from hopping but now I see when he wants help up  and appetite continues to stabilize, and if we can just get a few weeks of "normal cigar" poops ...

Please check out the spreadsheet and share your thoughts. I'm sorry it's not very full or even every 12. I try, we try, and this is what it is... but you can see I am getting some mid-shots now

I think he is looking great!

Do you have the U100 syringes to make it easier to mini dose?

You are making some good decisions on dosing. Nice job!

Wow, Sparks is looking great!
What I saw is that he went with no insulin for 40 hours before you needed to give him any this morning. That's terrific!

The only suggestion I would make.... If you get to the point where for instance you see a couple of days where you are needing to give 1u in the morning, and nothing at night.....
Maybe try a little less in the AM, like .75 or .5, so that you get a number at night that you can shoot at. And instead of giving 1u AM and zero PM, he'd get .5 each shot. That might help his overall numbers by keeping insulin in him to help for more hours in a 24 hour period.

Thanks Carl and Sue!

I wish I had ordered smaller needles.
I didn't think we'd get from 4u down to .05-1u so quickly, but it's a lovely surprise.

Good suggestion on lowering the dose and trying for twice a day, too.

Best of all, he's feeling better = more mobile & less depressed.
