I made chili the other night and left sour cream (low fat if that matters) on the kitchen table unattended. I turned around and saw Boomer eating it right out of the container. Eew. I love sour cream so I can see why he likes it.
Questions: is this okay for a diabetic? If so, can I use it to crush pills in? He's not been eating reliably in the last few days so I don't know 100% if he gets his meds. If I can give it to him in a dollup of sour cream I'll bet he'll gobble it up.

What do you think?

ETA- what about giving him the runs? Would it do that because it's a dairy product?

My cat loves sour cream. You can try the meds in the sour cream and maybe Boomer won't catch on to the trick :)

I've disguised meds in cheese whiz and also chili.

The sour cream shouldn't hurt him if you don't give too much too often. If I had to hide meds, my idea for my cat would be about 1 tsp max of the sour cream. Also - I'm thinking in terms of a measuring spoon teaspoon (versus silverware).

I would be cautious about that. Dairy products have a lot of lactose (milk sugar).

As for carbs, the USDA database says sour cream has 9.8 grams of carbs/cup (16 tablespoons). Lowfat products usually have more because the removed fat increases the % of the remaining sugar.

Have you tried crumbling a bit of dehydrated chicken breast over his food. Yesterday (in a local pet boutique) I noticed a larger bag of 100% freeze dried chicken breast marketed to DOGS was A LOT cheaper than the identical product in a small bag marketed for cats. Mine go CRAZY for this stuff (and no lactose :-D )
