Hi Everyone,

My mother had a sudden trip to the hospital with congestive heart failure. And then both daughters and grandsons came. So have not had a minute. I did check in and read the posts late at night.

Mom is 94 and getting a second wind. Daughters and grandsons had flights out today before the next snowstorm tomorrow.

So sad to see that Carl won't be posting regularly. He gives such great advice and explains things so well.

I am concerned about the PZI forum. We are really limited with advice givers. I have been pleased to see Hope posting regularly. I do want to urge all you "older" beans to post whenever you can. You all have months of experience withProZinc and thorough spreadsheets to guide people with options. My experience was with PZI and is old - I haven't had a diabetic kitty in years.

I will post on Health for new ProZinc users but think I won't encourage them to come over here until they are more experienced. It would be great if you all would find the PZI people on Health and jump in too.

Glad you are all here.

Glad you're back. Hope your mom is doing well. Have a nice, relaxing holiday.

RE the forum: I chip in with advice when I feel I can contribute, but I'm still shaky on dosage advice. I thought I'd figured it out, and then Cass proved to me I still don't know what's going on. ;-)

I know dose advice is scary. One thing you can do is give some options to the bean - you might consider this or this- and ask them what they are thinking. (have you noticed we do that with you? ). We aren't experts. The truth is that we are feeling our way, partly because ProZinc seems to act so differently with different cats.....

I'll work on it, I promise. It's also hard when I can't look at SS's on my phone. I only have internet access at work so I do most of my FDMBing on my cell phone.

hi sue,
I have been thinking of you wondering where you have been
Hope all goes well with your MOm...
I am on every moring adn try my best to give advice when I can
I go to bed early so it is hard for me to stay up past 9 (I wake at about 4 or 4:30)
Where has Carl been? Is everything ok with him?

I read in a post that Carl was taking a break. That he felt like he was overwhelmed and not paying enough attention to the other parts of his life. I understand completely.

The time & effort both you & Carl put into helping folks on the board is mind-boggling! You both deserve a break. Best wishes with your Mom, Sue, and Merry Christmas! Bless you!

Hi Saint Sue! I have been reading and I wondered where you had been. I hope your Mother is better.

I feel indebted to FD and the PZI forum for the invaluable knowledge that you and others have provided Kitty and I. Though most of my experience is with TID and a complex high dose cat, I will pledge to become more available to provide support and advice based on my experience with Prozinc. I agree that any of us that can step up and help need too. I hate to think of where Kitty and I would be without the help of this forum.

So, I hear your challenge and am going to make every attempt to do my part and pay it forward.

Thanks, Kim and Avery. Paying it forward is the only reason this board is still in existence. Your experience is invaluable. I have no idea what to advise for a TID bean, Kim. nailbite_smile And Avery, a newbie telling a newbie that things will get better is so important! Denise, I love to see you on in the early morning when the rest of us are still asleep.

You all have something so important to give.

Hi Sue :)
I do hope your Mom is doing better. I know how this elder care thing goes, my Mom is 82 and since we lost my Dad 4 years ago there are many changes, always when you least expect it too.

I hope Carl comes back soon too. I miss him already :( I hope he knows he is missed by all of us!

I too am very indebted to FDMB. I try to get here every day if possible, and I feel great about offering suggestions to folks about all the peripherals like food and syringes and testing, etc. What I don’t feel ok about yet is dosing advice. Asher just seems so different with dosing, he is a big gulper basically and many cats here are on such small doses.

If I don’t know what to say, I stay quiet or just offer words of support.
I probably, due to my personal cat experience, would recommend dosing higher and that could be scary for some folks so I just shy away from it.

So for right now, funny pics, words of support, and generic advice is all I feel ok about doing. I’ll try to work on it tho.

The most important thing is support, Donna. If you don't feel comfortable giving dose advice, you do what you can. The pics are so wonderful!

I just feel uncomfortable when only one person is giving dose advice and there is no peer review. When someone else is on and jumps in, I feel so much better!

I am with you on the peer review. I always like it when there is a few people discussing a dose. Many heads are indeed better than one :)

And I do think just having a "heart to heart" with a bean about how they feel about a dose is great too. We all have a vibe about our kitties, and once we are given the tools like a spreadsheet and some general insulin knowledge, I think most folks know what they might shoot, but would like someone to confirm that with them. Sometimes you think you are going crazy. We’ve all had that feeling

Hope your Mom is doing better, Sue. My grandma just turned 93, and lives alone. My grandpa died 2 years ago, and was a severe diabetic and had Alzheimer's and she took care of him with help from my mom, aunt and I. She broke her wrist a year ago and started using a walker afterwards and now is dependent on it. My mother or I fix her dinner, clean her house and take her to doctor's appts. She is having surgery on her eyelid on Jan. 3. Its very scary when there is prospect of surgery at that age.

I don't feel comfortable at all giving dosing advice, as well, as you know, Henry's numbers are so weird, and I feel almost as confused as when we started. I will be happy to offer support to newbies who are overwhelmed, terrified and upset that their kitty has been diagnosed with FD and overwhelmed with testing and giving insulin. We've all been there and it does become easier and less scary with time.

I was sorry to read that Carl won't be contributing regularly, he had a wealth of knowledge and offered some much needed humor. We all would have been lost without help from you, Joanna, Robin, Carl and others and I surely appreciate all the hours of help and support all of you have provided. I understand that Carl feels he spent too much time on FDMB and PZI, but I hope he will come back and check in with us.
