Is there anything you can do to help with their ears getting sore? Only one of his ears will give me blood so I'm constantly using the same ear and you can tell Its red and has a few small scabs.. it doesnt seem to be painful to him yet but it makes me sad to see it .

We use a little smear of Equate (Walmart brand) pain relief ointment (you can use Neosporin too). If you also compress the "poke" site for 10 to 15 seconds that seems to help prevent bruising. I use a cotton ball to back the ear when I poke, then use it for compression. Hope this helps.

I only have one ear to work with too, and made basically this same post before, but I haven’t come up with anything beyond the two things mentioned above. One person did suggest chilling the pain relief neosporin some.

@Bron and Sheba You mean the outer and inner side from the outside of the ear? I thought you could only use the outer edge, unless I'm misunderstanding?

Curious too because I also can't get my cat's left ear to bleed at ALL. Is it bad to use only one ear?

nope, looking at it from behind, you can use both sides of the ear, well at least I do, his ears aren't THAT big for all the pricking I've needed to do, and he jumps and jerks, sometimes I've wound up slicing right through the edge

more awkward for you to use the front side/inside of the ear, with Panic's dark coat and luxuriant fur -- but I've had to myself, several times when Catcat jerked so vigorously that the poke went all the way through and the droplet on the front side was easier to use (or larger)

I often smear both sides of both ears with Neosporin at night, rub it in gently, so he can heal overnight, he's less likely to wash it away then

I’m talking about both sides of the hairy side of the ear. If you shine a torch behind the ear you will see there is a blood vessel going right around the ear. So you prick in the same areas as you do for the other side of the ear ( I mean from the edge of the ear.) It’s not the sweet spot but I found it worked fine and gave the other areas a break.
Don’t know why you can’t get the other ear to bleed. Keep trying with the other ear. Warm it and rub it for a few days first.
