My DH bought food for Motor while I was out of town and realized that Sophisacat has changed to Great Choice. They SAY it is the same food etc, but we have noticed in the last 2 months A LOT more urine out put and higher BGs.

Is it common for a food to change names and NOT change formula? Should I stop this food and try another?

Suggestions?

What flavor is it? One way to tell if they changed the formula is to check the ingredients. If it's still grain/vegetable free, then the food is probably not the problem. So far, I haven't seen any changes to the ingredients that would make it higher carb.

Is motor still on Prozinc? Perhaps he needs his insulin dose adjusted up or down? Do you have home testing values that some of the PZI people could look at to give you some guidance?

I don't feed Grreat Choice, but a friend of mine feeds it to her diabetic cat, and his numbers have not increased from the food.

No he's been OTJ for a long time now. We got numbers at the vet that were in the 300s but at home he's in the 170s. Which is higher than he was at first OTJ and months after.

I made the mistake of not checking the carb content of that and was lured by the new lower price. It took about 3 weeks of higher BGs before the brick fell on my head reminding me to check Binky's list... ohmygod_smile

I just started it so don't know about the old formula...

Hugs,

We were feeding Kitten Sophisticat before and Grreat Choice now. We haven't noticed any difference in his BG levels (sticking with the same flavours as before). He went OTJ on it and is still continuing to do well :)

I noticed it got even mushier.

My cats prefer a bit of "al dente", or firmess to the food. Or maybe that's just me!
