I don't know what is wrong with Sophia. She is not eating well today and wandering around and acting very strange. She was under the dining room tab le and looked like she wanted to urinate and when she saw me she went on the porch put her hindlegs in a flowerpots with her frontlegs on the floor and urinated a little in the pot. It was the strangest thing. Then I found a little bit of blood on the carpet in the bathroom. I put her in the hallway with her litterbox and she imm. went to it and sat in it like it was her bed... There was also a little blood in the tiny amount of urin in the big box she shares with her brother.

Greylie has had urinary problems but I thought only male cats had that problem.

Does anybody know about female cat urinary problems. Thank you,.

Just be aware that the blood may be from cystitis and not an infection. My email Patches gets blood urine some times from cystitis.

I will call the vet in the morning and I am sure she wants me to take her in.... Sophia will be 16 April 6th and she never had a urinary problem. Greylie had several and I always keep an eye out for him. He has not had any problems for years. It just never occurred to me that Sophia could have problems like that.

Apart from today, have you seen her urinating in odd places lately? Has she been lacking appetite for the past few days? Getting her to the vet is definitely the way to go here.

My Gabby had two UTIs, one about two years ago and one at christmas time. She acted just like your Sophia. I took her to the vet right away, they took a urine sample and gave her antibiotics and she was feeling better in a day or so. Female cats can get them, just not as frequently as male cats. Especially if they're older. Gabby was 14 when she had her first one.

Gabby had very early stage Kidney Insufficiency. Many cats do once they get older. I'm pretty sure that's why she had the UTIs.

If it is a UTI, when they do the re-check of Sophia's urine after her course of antibiotics I would also ask them if her urine is overly diluted, which can be an indication of kidney disease before it progresses enough to show in a blood test. I switched gabby to high quality, low phosphorus foods (PetGuard chicken & Beef, Wellness Turkey) and her Kidney disease did not worsen in 2 1/2 years.
