Something is going on with Kahlua

Kahlua has always been a voracious eater. Last summer she kind of slowed down. We ran all the tests and found she had Hypothyroidism. She had no symptoms. We have finally gotten a good does of Felimazole, I think. We need to recheck in 2 weeks. I feel like her BG numbers have been trending higher, too. She does get down into the 50's at times, but she's more in the blues. Today she isn't eating well at all. She ate breakfast, wouldn't eat lunch or supper.....I even boiled some chicken, which she flat out refused. For her PMPS, I managed to get her to eat most of her dinner using catnip. She is sleeping in her bed and just uninterested in anything. I'm trying to not freak out here......but I am. Any thoughts? I'm thinking we are going to need to see the vet again.

Hey Maria, is she nauseous do you think? We went through something similar recently and it turned out to be pancreatitis. The vet ran a blood test. Manageable at home with the anti-nausea/appetite stimulant meds. Not saying it’s definitely that, but worth seeing what your vet thinks. My understanding is it can come and go.

In the meantime, could you try a different type of food or flavor? We had some luck with that. Or Fortiflora or some other topper.

@Staci & Ivy has experience with hyperthyroidism. Maybe she’ll have some thoughts.

Poor Kahlua! I wonder if she's nauseated, which, of course, could be caused by a number of things. Has this happened before? Do you have anything for nausea? Is she sniffing the food and walking away (sign of nausea)? Is she grinding her teeth (Jude does this when nauseated, but only when severely nauseated). I'm always proactive when things like this happen, especially if it's unusual, so I'd take her in if I were you. I've never regretted a vet check when I'm concerned. Sending all the vines to precious Kahlua 🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃

She may be. A couple days ago she ground her teeth as she was bathing. It kind of seemed like she had a hair or something in her mouth. It hasn't happened since, so I let it go. She is raw fed and eats beef, pork and lamb. I also mix them so she gets a different flavor for each meal. She did eat all her dinner tonight with a lot of enticing from me. She did bathe very briefly. Not her usual full on bath though.

She could be nauseous. She hasn't ground her teeth today, but didn't a couple days ago while bathing. Her tummy isnt rumbling at all. I will probably call the vet tomorrow. Hopefully she will be feeling better and I will breathe again!

Very likely nausea, if she’s grinding her teeth. That’s usually the most significant symptom for Jude. Excessive drooling and licking lips, too. Keep us posted.

I'll definitely keep an eye on her! I just checked her and fed her and she is dropping and she got up and ate! Maybe just an off day. Oddly the dog had an off day too. Lots of vomiting, poor girl!

I believe you think like me, when I have been seeing nothing but two digits on the spreadsheet, and then a few blues pop up I began to panic, my eyes are not used to seeing 3 blues in one day, this happened almost a month ago, but it kept happening too often to Corky's standards, after discussing here my concerns, I increased his dose 0.25u on 3/15 I am happy now, but Corky will be a lifetime diabetic and his numbers are very tightly regulated, but you should follow your instincts, you know Kahlua best, if you feel that something does not click, take her to the vet, better sooner than later, it may just be pancreatis like Tim & Pookey said, or nausea, like Mary explained the symptoms., hope she gets better soon 🤗 :cat:

Yeah....today she seems better. She's eating like herself again. I'm hoping to take her next week because she has to get her t4 checked then anyway. But, I'll get her in sooner if I have to for sure. Honestly I think it's her teeth. They need a cleaning. The vet said they looked okay last Sept., but they don't look okay now. Nasty!

Oh good grief! Corky has dental cleaning for the first time tomorrow, I have to drop him off at 9:00, she had labs and fructosamine test, all came back Excellent, I always had cats, but I never knew they needed dental cleaning, this is the new era, and brushing! if I would've known that they can get their teeth brushed to avoid plaque, I would have started when young, I am a bit freaked out with the general anesthesia, he has an amazing vet 30 years' experience with FD and he has 9 cats himself, I know he is in good hands, but I am having a bit of a hard time coping with tomorrow! this is his first dental cleaning in 14 years, and I hope this does not mess up his regulated BGs, I started noticing terrible bad breath, luckily, he has no bad teeth, but a thick wall of plaque.😱

@CORKY the vet said something similar to me and until they got in there they didn’t know there would need to be extractions. Not trying to frighten you. It’s totally manageable though if it happens. You might see higher BG for a bit too, we did. Good luck!!

Sorry Maria - I didn’t mean for that. It just caught me completely off guard when it happened so I was hoping to at least get it on your radar so the same didn’t happen to you. I’m sure he’ll do great.
