yesterday she was acting fine playing eating being friendly the usual and all of a sudden she started acting like she wasn't feeling very good like upset stomach then she threw up and I thought maybe she will feel better then she laid on her side and I noticed she was either having heaves or breathing heavily.she still tried to act somewhat herself then after awhile she threw up again and all night this went on and she started laying on blanket in dark corner and breathing heavily with mouth open most of the time.the vomiting stopped this morning and notice she had urinated on herself.she drank some water a few times and kept it down but not eating.im thinking of syringe feeding her watered down mashed canned food and some nutracal.i don't want her going too long without any food in her.i completely baffled on what is wrong with her.she is 13 yrs old this month and weighs 13lbs.i have some buprenorphine on hand just in case she is in pain.i want to take her to the vet but can't afford the vet bill.im in the middle of moving and so much going on.i have read online that if you can't afford vet care you can sign your cat over to a vet and they will put it to sleep or nurse her back to health and give her a good home.i don't want to see her suffer.i love her too much.i could nurse her but if she is dying and suffering I don't want to prolong it.im so torn up.been crying all night and day.knives are stabbing into my heart.:(

Oh dear, I am so sorry to hear your girl is having such problems! Is it possible the vet would be willing to work with you on the cost? Maybe a payment plan of some sort? I really think she needs to see the vet. I can't imagine how heartbreaking this must be for you!

Oh, Cat Girl ... :bighug:

I'm on the same page as Lucy re trying to work something out with the vet on costs. I really think it's the best thing to get Sable examined by the vet. You've got a good relationship with your vet: I think that if you explain that you're a bit caught out with moving expenses at the moment you should get a fair hearing at the very least.

Sending prayers and healing thoughts for Sable and more :bighug:s for you. I really feel for you.

Open mouth breathing and 'huffing' is a really bad thing...she REALLY needs to at least have the vet check her even if you can't afford for him to do any testing. She's struggling to breathe and physically having to force air in and out. May be inflamed airways which can be helped with meds but right now it's not good. It stinks...I'm so sorry....

HUGS,

Beth, :bighug: Sending healing vibes for Sable. Please keep us posted.
Thank you so much.i don't what happened so suddenly out of the blue like that.going to have to call the vet and see what they say I can do.trying to syringe her a little water and trying some canned gravy water to see if she will keep that down and if she will, will try some watered down mashed food very slowly since she is have trouble

It could be a twisted intestine, and that would be very painful, and deadly. You're better not to feed her because if this is it its only going to add to her pain. Not being diabetic she can easily go 2-3 days without food. When my black lab had pancreatitis several years ago, we weren't allowed to feed her for 3 days.

She really does bed to be seen by a vet ASAP.

Unlike dogs, cats CANNOT go 2-3 days without food without risking hempatic lipadosis for 'fatty liver'. 36 hours begins the 'gotta get food in now' for most cats. How is she now? She needs food even if syringed...

If she has a twisted gut, the food won't get thru anyway and will complicate the situation greatly! In this instance, (if this is the problem) to withhold food is far less dangerous. Water is the more important thing, but needs to be given in small amounts. We've dealt with this situation in the past. But either way, the cat needs to be seen or by the sound of things, or it's probably not going to make it.

Beth, how is Sable this morning? Were you able to get her to a vet? Prayers that she is improving! :bighug::bighug::bighug:
Took her to vet this am and there wasn't much they could do too much fluid in the lungs.she had cardiomyopathy and I guess she had a heart attack while playing around.so she had to be put to sleep.she had Maine coon mix in with her and Maine coon are more prone to cardiomyopathy.im heart broken but didn't want to have her suffering any longer.my mom was able to lend me some money til I get paid to get to the vet.

Oh I'm SO sorry it was HCM and yes, Maine Coons tend to have it more often that many others. Even tho' it was hard to do, thank you for loving her enough to let her go.

HUGS AND HUGS AND HUGS.....soar high on your new angel wings sweet Sable...landing softly back in Mama's broken heart...

So sorry to hear that Sable has crossed the bridge. You gave the greatest (and hardest) gift of love in letting her be free of pain.

Oh Beth, I am so sorry. I know you loved her very much, and I hope you will find some peace in knowing you did what was best for her. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I'm so sorry Beth. :bighug::bighug::bighug: Fly free sweet Sablecat_wings>o
Thank You so much for your help and kind words I appreciate it so much.
Miss kitty has been stressed over the whole episode as well ever since it started her bg skyrocketed and stayed up.her sugar is starting to come down a bit now.even though she was always jealous of sable and acted like she didn't like her that much she went and laid down with her quite a few times and was trying to wash her.i kept moving her so sable could have some peace but she would come back a bit later.she was so oxygen deprived her tongue was blue purple color.i thought she might have gotten something in her throat in the beginning but the more I read online the symptoms that best fit were poison and cardiomyopathy.im just glad she isn't suffering anymore.even though I miss her greatly.cat_wings>o

I'm glad Miss Kitty's BG is starting to come down. I'm sure she'll miss Sable and she can sense that you're sad. Give her some extra hugs and attention and an extra scratch on the chin from me:bighug:

((((Beth))))

I'm very sad to hear about Sable. You did great to get her to the vet today - even if it wasn't the outcome you had hoped for you did everything you could to care for your precious girl. She was blessed to have you as her Person. My heart goes out to you in your loss.

For you ...

I am so sorry for your loss. Fly free Sable and keep watch over everyone who loves you. cat_wings>o
What is strange is my grandmother just called and said one of her cats died today as well and it sounded like her cat died from cardiomyopathy too.i just threw out one of sable's toys that miss kitty never used.couldnt stand looking at it.pretty much everything reminds me of her.even plastic jugs.sable was obsessed with anything plastic it seemed.she would beg for me to take a plastic gallon water jug and tap it all over her body and rub it on her belly and back while she rolled around acting crazy.just hope miss kitty don't miss her too badly.dont need her going downhill anymore on me too.wish our beloved pets lived as long as we do.

I have years in my eyes although I don't know you. Every time I read one of the cats have died it breaks my heart. I always think how I'd feel if it was my cat. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Dear Beth,
so sorry to hear bad news.
It must have been a really difficult time for you.
Sending prayers and lots of hugs from another UK member
