Someone sent PM, is sending syringes

Original message: This is still needed - even worse, since Hocks told me yesterday that they would send the correct syringes and now emailed that they will not. I am not down to FIVE, and how will they get here this week? What I posted before was:

Can someone send me about 20 syringes, GNP brand if possible (I am used to the width of the marks and might not measure accurately with another brand), and of course, .3cc, with 5/16", 31g needles like we all use here?

I ordered them from Hocks (DRAT them!) on April 14, when I had plenty left to last until an order arrived. Didn't get an email saying they'd been sent, was busy w/tax and expected them in my mailbox, but emailed Hocks today and got an answer. The syringes are out of stock. They should have told me that when I placed the order, of course.

I have 9 left, and they will get them IN stock eventually. If someone can send about 20 of the right kind, I will send you 25 when I get them, and pay your postage through PayPal. First Class mail will be fast enough - 9 will last 4 1/2 days, but Hocks has none to send.

Please, someone, help???

Blessings!

Shirley and Her Love

PS: If you can't send them, will you bump this up until someone sees it who can? THANKS!!!

UPDATE: Someone sent me a PM and is sending 10 syringes to tide me over. Bless FDMB!

Re: HELP! Ordered syringes 4/14, out of stock, have 9 left

It's OK - I called Hocks, and they will get them in stock tomorrow and send them by a faster method. Many thanks to all who would have helped.

Blessings!

Update: Hocks sent them (after first trying to sell me a higher priced brand instead), but by slow mail. Thank Heaven, a FDMB member sent me a PM and is sending 10 syringes to last until they get here.

Re: HELP! Still need syringes, now DESPERATELY!! Hocks fell

When asking for something that's urgently needed, I had better give my address! It is: (deleted - there must be a way to delete the whole message but I missed it.)

The people at Hocks are incredibly irresponsible (and for all they know, it's for a human).

Blessings!

No, Hocks will not. They lost me a day with their dithering. Please help!

Shirley-
You may want to take your address outta there. This is a public forum that ANYONE on the internet can see. :? Just not very safe!
You can exchange addresses with people in PM's, if you feel comfortable.

I am unclear if you will be getting the syringes in time.
Do you have a walmart? Walgreens? Any pharmacies nearby where you can pick an alternative up? Have you checked other websites and asked for overnight delivery?

Re: HELP! Still need syringes, now DESPERATELY!! Hocks fell

Shirley-
I was looking back and it seems this problem has happened before with you and Hocks.

I wonder if it is time to start shopping elsewhere? ;-)

I never ordered online for syringes. I picked mine up from walmart. Maybe you could ask people what companies they order from and move your business to another company.

Re: HELP! Still need syringes, now DESPERATELY!! Hocks fell

Shirley...call your vet to see if they have any syringes they could spare. When I picked up Pumbaa's insulin prescription, they gave me ten syringes for free. :)

Re: HELP! Still need syringes, now DESPERATELY!! Hocks fell

I would get a box of another brand to tide you through if nobody local to you carries this brand. You can work out dosing by using one of the ones you know and practicing with the new ones until you know where to draw to get the same size drop. I practiced for maybe 30 minutes with the last switch and was confident afterward of my dosing. I would draw the correct dose of colored water with the syringe I was used to and then squeeze it out on the dry edge of my stainless steel sink, where the drop was easy to see, and then practice with the new one, doing the same thing until the drop was the same size.

How small a dose do you give? Regulations state that one unit must be one unit on any syringe, and I found this to be accurate when measuring as above. I also found half unit marking to be accurate. I only give .1U, so that took some practice, but I got it figured out with practice.

i was gonna say the same thing carolyn. this has happened to you several times now Shirley and we all know that hocks fell apart when they changed ownership a while back so i'm not sure i'd give them another chance. numerous people here have had problems with them sending out orders, sending them out on time, sending them out in good shape etc..... maybe check out another source for syringes? if i remember correctly you are pretty rural? so not a lot of local choices but maybe check out other online places with a better reputation, i.e. americandiabeteswholesale.com, store4diabetics.com, etc......?? you could probably pay for expedited shipping from them too, as you would have to anyway from someone it sounds like at this point?

in the meantime this will bump this up at least so maybe someone sees it that is close enough to send you a few quickly enough :-)

Re: HELP! Still need syringes, now DESPERATELY!! Hocks fell

Most human pharmacies carry insulin syringes.
If your state requires a prescription, get one from the vet and fill it locally. A box isn't terribly expensive.

Now they say they shipped it - by slow mail

Evidently, while Mr. Alex Whitacre was trying to sell me a higher-priced brand of syringe, my original order was being shipped - but by slow mail, 2 to 9 days. They could have sent it by 2-day Priority for only $2 more than the $3 I paid for postage, and the syringes would have been here on Saturday, just as I used my last ones. This company doesn't care about people's health and shouldn't be selling something as essential as diabetic syringes. They aren't responsible enough.

In any case, the syringes are NOW ON THE WAY, according to Hocks. They told me they should arrive Monday, and I will have to re-use some and pollute the Lantus - fortunately, the pen is only about 1/3 full, because I will have to replace it when I get the new syringes (too much bacteria in it from the re-used ones).

I wouldn't order from Hocks if I had a good alternative. Someone suggested another company after I'd placed the order, and I will try it next time.

There's no need now for anyone to send them. Although the email said 2 to 9 days, the person on the phone said they should be here on Monday, and that's as soon as anyone else could get them here by mail. Dare I hope he was telling the truth?

Blessings,

S. and R.

i highly recommend American Diabetic Wholesale http://www.americandiabeteswholesale.com/catalog/insulin-syringes_178.htm they are absolutely awesome about getting my orders out quickly even with just regular mailing I still get them within just a couple of days and I'm fairly rural as well. And the one time i did get a bad batch of syringes they simply replaced them no questions asked and didn't even ask me to return the bad ones, since there were still a few that were usable until the new ones arrived.

I know - I put the address up intending to delete it as soon as someone made use of it. But my address is on my business website too, and has been for more than ten years. (I have a Rural Route box number I'd rather use, but the local Post Office won't deliver to anything but a physical address, and customers have to order...) I guess if the nuts haven't gotten me yet, they won't. ;-)

North Dakota law doesn't allow Walmarts to have pharmacies - only drugstores that are owned by a local pharmacist. There's no Walmart nearby anyway, but if it weren't for that law, I could probably have gotten them at the local Pamida.

Another member sent a PM - she is sending me 10 syringes right away, so I won't have to depend on Hocks. Wonderful FDMB again!!

Thanks and blessings!

I did - someone is sending syringes, so the address isn't needed any more.

Speaking of its not being secure, I wish Post Offices would deliver to rural route boxes. The local one, at least, refuses, so I have to put my address on my business website, which is a lot worse than posting it here. :o

You are SO right about shopping elsewhere! I've already gotten a couple of good suggestions. I hope I can get the same brand, though, because I measure it very precisely, and if the markings are different (wider, etc.) it could change the dose.

No Walmart pharmacies in ND - it's state law. A very bad law at that.

Blessings!

I can't get half-unit markings locally, unfortunately. I tried all the drugstores long ago.

That was the first thing I tried, but they didn't have any with half-unit markings. Then I came here...

It's happened to me twice, but that's enough. The other time they weren't even out of stock, they just forgot about the order. At least, that time they overnighted them when they saw their mistake. This time they just sent them by slow mail, not even Priority ($5).

You're right - actually no local choices since I need half-unit markings. ND doesn't allow any store to have a pharmacy unless it's owned by a local pharmacist, which makes it harder. In fact, I Googled Good Neighbor Pharmacy brand syringes once to find another source, and Hocks was the only one that showed up. Maybe it's their own brand.

Trouble with switching brands is that I measure very precisely, and if the lines are a little wider, etc., it will take a while to get the right dose again, and in the meantime he'll be getting the wrong one.

If anyone else knows another source of this same brand of syringes, I hope they will PM me and start another thread to let others know about it too. (This thread is getting pretty long.)

At least, Hocks is sending them out and I will get them eventually, and a wonderful member is sending 10 syringes to last until I get them. I would like to get away from Hocks. If I have to use them again, I am going to call them the day after ordering to make sure my order has been sent, and probably take the advice of the member who orders the next box as soon as she starts one. By the time we've used up 100 syringes, the order ought to be here, no?

Blessings!
