Someone got sick unknown who

Came home this morning to piles of puck through out the dining room and kitchen. I could see husband cleaned up a large area on the back porch. I have 2 small dogs as well as 2 cats Teal'c and Shefoo. Since shortly after we changed food from dry to wet Shefoo has been doing this hacking thing. She hacks 3 or 4 times then swallows hard a few times in a row then she is fine, husband thinks it's because I've changed her food and she no longer has hairball control food. So thought maybe it was her. She is 4 years old.

I noticed that the piles clearly have dog food in them. Teal'c jumps in his testing chair I test and his BG is 579. Highest I've seen it in a few days. So now I'm concerned husband left the dog food down Teal'c has been eating it therefore it could have been him unsure now about shooting in case his not feeling well but he is so high. He ate well when I gave him his food, So I have decided to give him his shot and am sitting up to see if he keeps his food down or see who is sick.
Sorry so long of an explanation.
If it turns out to be Teal'c and he loses his food it's there any thing I should do since I gave him his shot?

I'm a newbie, so take what I say with a grain of salt. Cats are notorious for not getting enough water, and this contributes to hairball issues. Switching to a canned food diet should help this enormously, and it doesn't have to be a canned hairball treatment food. If you are worried about Shefoo still having issues, daily brushing also helps control hairballs. Is Shefoo doing the hacking thing immediately after eating? It's possible she is taking too big of bites of the canned? My Billy does that sometimes. Try chopping the pate into smallish bites and spreading them out on a plate if she seems to be gobbling her food.

Since there's no way to know who threw up, the best thing to do is keep an eye on Teal'c and see what happens. If he does vomit again, and you're worried about his BGL getting too low, you could try something that would be a little easier on his tummy, like plain boiled chicken breast diced up. If he hasn't thrown up immediately on feeding, then likely some of the food will have been digested, so just keep an eye on his BGL.

Have you made an emergency hypo kit yet? If you have not, I recommend getting one together, which will ease your mind as well as give you a safety net if Teal'c has a hypo event. This link tells you what you need in your kit, and this one has all the information you need to treat a hypo. I printed it out and keep it in my kit.

The dog food is a problem if Teal'c is eating it. Dog food is much higher carb than cat food, generally. If it's an issue, you might want to keep Teal'c confined away from the dog food when you need too.

Thank you for your response. I do have a hypo kit with karo syrup med carb and high carb food together still need a feeding syringe incase he won't eat.

My post might have been more of a rant with a question at the end. I was angry that there was evidence that one of the cats if not both had been in the dog food, if he had picked it up like I do they would not have gotten into it. I know it was one of the cats that was sick because the back porch is a closed in area, inside the house kind of a utility room, a cat sanctuary where the dogs can't go. I'm not sure he understands how important it is that Teal'c does not get any high carb food. I'll never get this under control if he is able to find contraband. 579 is quite high I hadn't seen a 500 number in 5 days now, guessing it will be a few cycles before he clears the effects of any high carb dog food he might of eating. Feeling like its 1 step forward 2 steps back.

Yeah that's what I've done and he may have forgot to pick it up after their feeding time but it still made me angry. They eat at the same time I feed Teal'c his food before his shot.

During the day, when Billy is out and about, I keep Tippy and her dry food in my mom's room. But mom keeps forgetting to close the door! So far, Billy has been too fulll of wet food for it to be a problem, but I still worry. Is Teal'c getting enough wet food to eat? If he's not hungry, the dog food will be less of a temptation.

Feeding arrangements is the area I'm having problems with. We feed the cats in the back porch area with a gate between the kitchen and back porch to keep the dogs out of the cats food. Dogs are feed in dinning room. Like I said I have been picking up the dog food recently because I caught Teal'c eating it. I had tried feeding Shefoo on top of the chest freezer and Teal'c on the floor, Shefoo would not stay on the freezer she kept jumping down to where Teal'c was feeding. She doesn't push her way in will wait for him to quit eating. Honestly, I never see her at the bowl but by her looks she is eating plenty. I put out a 5.5oz of either Friskies pate or Dr. Elsey's clean protein pate I also leave Dr Elsey's clean protein dry on the side. I gave up trying to feed them separately. By the end of day there is always a bit of the pate and some dry. He can and does still jump the gate to get to the litter box and food. I keep wondering if it is getting hard for him. He never pees or poops outside the box but wish I could find a better solution. The animals are not allowed on the other side of the house by husband. The house is split down the middle with the bedrooms and bathroom on one side and living room dinning room kitchen and back porch on otherside. There are no closing doors on the allowed side except the basement door.
