Hi there...
Scooter has been acting a bit "off" these past few weeks. He was OTJ for all of a month in July, back on insulin since August. I have been doing my best to keep up with shooting him, but I lost my job and ran out of strips, so he didn't get tested for a while. Thankfully I got some strips from DCIN on wednesday. I also am not sure if the Lantus has quit working or not as his cycles have been erratic and flat although his numbers have not been too high. I am going to try using my last vial next.
Anyways I dont think his behavior is diabetes related. I have noticed the following-
1. He yowls and cries a lot, for no apparent reason. I will be at my desk in the living room and he will sit in the hallway and cry cry cry. He also does it a lot at night and wakes me up. He is sitting behind me meowing right now. I tried feeding him and he's not hungry. This is what's concerning me because he's never been this vocal ever before. He will stop for a while if I talk to him and pet him.
2. He gets these brief periods of extreme energy - he woke me up at 3am a few nights ago burning around the house and clawing up the carpet.
3. He will get this "look" on his face.... his pupils will go really big and he will look extremely alert/agitated... "bugged out" if you will. Sometimes I think he's chasing bugs or something but it seems random.
I have done a bit of reading and these are some symptoms of something like hyperthyroid or high blood pressure and I am scared ****less to be quite honest, i dont know how i'm going to pay the rent next month, let alone take him to the vet and do blood tests. DCIN can only pay half of vet bills now too. I don't know what to do..
