Some questions

I have three questions maybe someone can help me with.

First, I know I have seen this info somewhere already but can't seem to locate it again, now - what is t he best place, in the refrigerator, to store unused Lantus?

Second, can someone help me understand why my cats do this? - they eat (well, I feed) 1/2 5.5 oz can of food 3x a day (they are all close to the same weight, except for one who is underweight and needs to gain), but almost never finish a meal. They will usually eat breakfast fairly well (at AMPS), then I give lunch at +5 when, surprisingly, they seem to be hungry and will eat about 3/4 of, then at PMPS they get dinner, which they will frequently turn their noses up at altogether. It worries me because I doubt any of them are even eating a full can of food per day. I have tried different types and flavors and this behavior doesn't change.

Last but not least, I know you can freeze cat food if you add some water and put it in ice cube trays. Does anyone know approximately how much water to add? I want to make up some frozen lunch cubes for my guys, for when I will not be here to feed them.

I can help with a couple of your questions.

Insulin (both open and unopened) should be stored on a shelf..not the fridge door where it can be jostled when the door is opened and shut. I store mine on the top shelf near the back of the shelf in a small box with some padding in it. I also keep a thermometer in the box so that I can make sure the temperature stays within a good range. If you have a thermometer you can use it to try different areas in your fridge and find one that stays consistent. My fridge is quite old, which is why I started using the thermometer.

I have two sugar kitties. One is a food vacuum and the other is a picky grazer. The food vacuum I never have to worry about...if he isn't eating everything on his dish he is probably sick. My girlie (newly diagnosed) has always been a grazer...she may take 4 visits to her dish before she finishes it all. When I need her to eat, putting some tuna juice on the food will usually get her interest.

When freezing kitty food, you just need enough water to be able to spread it easily in the ice cube tray, not overly watery, but "thin" enough to be able to spread scoops in each compartment.

Hopefully you will get some more feedback soon on your questions. :)

Thank you so much for the information! I have a grazer, too, but after a while she will lose interest completely. I am so afraid none of my cats is eating enough!

I feel your frustration. My girlie kitty was just diagnosed a week+ ago, and her numbers were fine as of the end of January. She has always been a petite kitty with a picky appetite, but now with the FD she needs to put on about 3/4 lb to get her back to her good weight, and with getting insulin I worry if her numbers drop since she is not a big eater at the best of times. I do home-made but now I keep an arsenal of assorted foods on hand. Right now if I have to feed her high carb to get her to eat then that's what I will do. The tuna juice is my saving grace for her, but I would really rather not give her that on a regular basis.

Smokey started leaving food in his dish. Since his main meals are normally 1.5 oz, I cut back to 1.25 oz. He eats all that but then wants more in an hour, so I give him the other .25. It seems the 1.5 is to much for one meal.

I measure out him meal and just plop it on wax paper and freeze the plop. I don't use frozen much as I don't need to but have some frozen just in case. Which I think need to be thrown out now. I have to make some with the ziwipeak food.

It's SO frustrating! I gave in and bought a case of very expensive food that they had all tried, and liked, and of course now they won't touch it! Squallie likes chicken and does very well on low carb chicken foods, but Candy can't eat chicken or turkey and hates lamb and rabbit, and none of them care much for beef. That leaves me little choice except for the foods I can't really afford on my budget. I really just don't know what to try next!

I'm sure you tried this. Use a different flavor for each meal.

Add a little warm water. Smokey doesn't like mush but just a little so its warmed.

I have no less than 6 cans opened in the fridge. The 2 civvies don't eat much of the Ziwipeak.
