Hi, Keiki started insulin yesterday and the vet said to start at 2 units so I administered at the vet at 1pm

the vet said not to do again until the morning where i would start the 12 hours so we are doing 7.30am & 7.30pm

last night her blood went down to 5.4 mmol/L and it freaked me out as she was low 20s

luckily it started climbing back up.

This morning i gave her 1.5 her level before the insulin was 24 and it has only gone down to 18.8 7 hours later.

should i keep the 1.5 or should i go back to the 2 units?

I would stick with the 1.5 units for now. Our normal Lantus starting dose is usually more like 1 unit, based on which dosing method you want to use and what food you are feeding. But I wouldn't lower the dose any more for now, because in your first post, you said she had ketones recently. Here is the link to that first post: https://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/keiki.260350/

She isn't used to those normal green numbers she had yesterday, and doing what we call bouncing. Plus it takes 5-7 days for the depot to fill, so it's best to hold the initial dose that long, unless she goes too low.

A couple things I'll recommend. First is to update your signature as suggested in this post: New? How You Can Help Us Help You! Knowing that your kitty recently had ketones will change what we suggest to you, so it's a useful detail for the signature.

When you've got some time, take a look through the yellow starred Sticky Notes at the top of this forum. It includes basics and definitions, as well as describing our dosing methods. And another thing to help us help you as we have a number of posters on this forum is this note: POSTING GUIDELINES PLEASE READ And feel free to ask any question any time. There is lots to learn at first.
