SO done w Walmart - alternate testing supplier?

I'll skip the long story, but for a lot of reasons, we don't shop at Walmart. We made an exception when Tasha was diagnosed with diabetes because of the highly recommended and affordable glucose reader and supplies. Kitty diabetes is expensive enough, right?

But I've just had a chain of recent events with them and I'm done with Walmart. In-store, online, period, done. Lucky (?) for me, my last order that will arrive eventually sometime maybe has 300 test strips in it.

But looking forward:

1. Is there anywhere else to get compatible test strips at a reasonable price for the Relion Prime? I thought I read somewhere that the answer was yes but I can't track seem to track them down.

2. What's my next-best option for reliability/affordability in an alternate reader? I'll pay more to never give Walmart another dime.
 
I've also heard that Target has a reasonable meter/strips option. Check out any pharmacy, just remember to look at the price of the strips.
 
Lucy - Those are the ones I was thinking of. I'll see if I can find something for the Prime.

Sharon - Target at least has been reliable in shipping to me. I haven't read much about their meters so I'll look into it.
 
ADW doesn't have any strips that work with the Prime...Only the Confirm or Micro

Target stores have a meter called the Up and Up that's supposed to be affordable and easy to use...If I remember right, the plain Up and Up is the one most recommend, not the Up and Up "Premium"
 
I used a Wavesense Presto meter with my first diabetic cat. We really like it and the strips are inexpensive, available on Amazon 100 at a time for $20. This is the same meter Target sells as Up & Up, except they make the body red for them. The Wavesense strips work in either meter. We now use both.

PS We also will not shop at Walmart ever.
 
I'm also with you about not shopping at Walmart. Never been inside one - never plan to. I use AlphaTrak - good to see there are fine alternatives for those using human meters.
 
So sorry - I didn't see these replies. I didn't mean to be rude.

I finally received the Walmart shipment with 300 test strips in it. 5 days late. That will last us quite awhile. At some point, I think I'll give the Target Up & Up a try, especially with the info about the Wavesense strips being available on Amazon. We're in the process of finding a new vet since we just moved so I'll first see if they have any really strong feelings but I'm glad to at least have an option.

Thanks - I'll keep those in mind. Unfortunately, we switched vets less than a year ago so we've been down this road before.
 
I won't shop at Walmart either. It's seriously one of the worst businesses in the world and I refuse to support that.

I found a great meter at CVS. It's their store brand meter and strips. I think the meter was around $22 and 100 strips are around $17. However, if you have a CVS Care card, you get a lot of coupons. I've always bought Scout's strips at a 20-30% discount. Last week they had boxes of 50 strips for $9.99 and then you got a coupon back worth $9.99, which I used to get a 2nd package for free.

It compared beautifully to his previous meter which was an Ultra One Touch mini. They were never more than 10 points apart.
